Abstract:
The present invention provides an acoustic wave biosensor adapted for the detection of endotoxins and processes for preparing same. The biosensor comprises a piezoelectric substrate modified with a self-assembling monolayer. Immobilized on the self-assembling monolayer is a biochemical probe (preferably, polymyxin B). Such biosensor is functionalized to detect endotoxins utilizing an electromagnetic piezoelectric acoustic sensor. According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided polymyxin B immobilized beads, processes for preparing same, and neutralization cartridges comprising such beads for the treatment of endotoxemia. Finally, the present invention provide a theranostic circuit device for the treatment of endotoxmeia that utilizes one or more hemoperfusion cartridges and an acoustic wave biosensor.
