Abstract:
Estimating a signal power in a compressed audio signal [A] is provided, the audio signal comprising blocks of quantized samples, a given block being provided with a set of scale factors. The estimating is performed by extracting the set of scale factors from the compressed audio signal, and estimating the signal power in the given block based on a combination of the scale factors. Advantageously, the extracting step and estimating step are performed on only a sub-set of the set of scale factors. The signal power estimation may be used in a silence detector (11) for use in a receiver (1).
Abstract:
A device to kill harmful insects, such as mosquitoes and similar, comprising two or more grids (6A, 6B, 6C) having shaped openings and at least one being electrically charged, applied to one or more surfaces of an object; the grids (6A, 6B, 6C) are applied, at least partially, at at least one wall (9A, 9B, 9C) of a space (8A) of a building or of a cage (7A, 7B, 7C) where it is present at least one human being or animal (8), while at the remaining surfaces of the building or cage (7A, 7B, 7C) a structure is present that does not allow passing through of insects, such as a structure of glass, plastic, wood, masonry and/or mosquito-nets (131).
Abstract:
Silences are detected when a local signal power is below a given fixed or relative threshold value, the duration of the local signal power being below the given fixed or relative threshold value is within a first range and at least one of the parameters signal power fall/rise rate and local power deviation falls within a respective further range. The invention further relates to the use of such a silence detection in a receiver (1).
Abstract:
The sharp price decrease of storage media enabled users to store more and faster content in contrary to the past. In the near future they will be overwhelmed by the amount of data stored on storage media. Because of the enormous amount of information, they will not be able to index the multimedia content stored manually for later retrieval. Tools to support the users are required. The disadvantage of these algorithms is that they are very expensive in terms of processing power and therefore not feasible for consumer storage devices. The invention proposes an apparatus for content indexing using processing parameters that come available while processing multimedia content. One embodiment of this processing is compression, processing which is performed with almost all multimedia content before it is stored.
Abstract:
A device to kill harmful insects, such as mosquitoes, comprising one or more structures (6A, 6B, 6C ), each having at least one opening (30A, 30B, 30C), applied, at least partially, at at least one wall (9) of a space (8A) where it is present at least one human being or animal (8) or lure, while at the remaining surfaces of the space (8A) a structure is present that does not allow passing through of insects, such as a structure of glass, plastic, wood, masonry and/or mosquito-nets (131); of the said structures (6A, 6B, 6C ) at least one is provided of at least one opening wide enough, or that can be set wide enough, to let said harmful insects pass through and of the said structures (6A, 6B, 6C ) at least one is provided of one or more startable motions capable of killing or severely injuring said harmful insects.
