The problem to be solved is to protect the connector parts of the fuel-cell cartridge and the fuel-cell holding appliance from damage when an external rotating force that exceeds a rated value is applied to the cartridge case. The means for solving the problem is a fuel-cell cartridge connector (1) comprising a connecting projection member (12) that is held in a cartridge case that covers a fuel container that contains fuel to be supplied to a fuel cell, said connecting projection member having one end for insertion into the aforementioned fuel container and the other end for contact with the front end of a fuel supply mouth and for attachment to said fuel supply mouth. A method for making γ-alumina includes drying wet alumina gels at temperatures and pressure below those commonly present in preparation of γ-alumina. The method allows for production of γ-alumina with greater ease of production and controllability of physical properties than known methods. Alumina produced using this method has high surface area and porosity and is highly suitable for making γ-alumina powders for use as catalyst supports.

Disclosed is a sol-gel process for making high-density monolithic alpha-alumina articles. Cracking problems caused by shrinkage of the gel during the drying and firing stages are minimized by controlling the temperature and humidity during the drying process and by using molds formed of prescribed polymeric materials, preliminarly coated with a silicone release agent. The process of the invention provides porous alpha-alumina articles having a controlled microstructure and a controlled pore size distribution, which are beneficial features when the material is used in practical applications, e.g., as substrates for gas sensors.
