    Abstract: The present invention provides a cold pack which utilizes the negative heat of solution of a material dissolving in a liquid. The cold pack further includes a gelling agent, which is activatable to form a gel. The gel provides a number of benefits, including better distribution of cold, increased cold persistence in the cold pack, and a more complete utilization of the ingredients of the cold pack than possible with prior art devices.

    Abstract: A user-activatable, single-use chemical heater that includes at least one compartment of a first type separated from at least one compartment of a second type by a separator that is compromisable by a user to establish communication therebetween.     Abstract: A heating device includes a sealed container and a sleeve inside the container. The sleeve defines an interior space adapted to be in fluid communication with reactants from a user-initiated exothermic chemical reaction. The sleeve has surfaces that respectively define a lower ventilation port between the interior space and a lower ventilation passage and an upper ventilation port between the interior space and an upper ventilation passage.     Abstract: A self-heating product container includes an open-top outer container, at least an upper portion of which is circular in cross section. A product compartment is disposed within and is rotatably and sealingly engaged to the upper portion. The volume of the outer container not occupied by the product compartment defines a single-use chemical heater that includes an upper chamber containing a first reactant, a lower chamber containing a second reactant, and a frangible seal therebetween. At least one chisel element is hingedly connected to the product compartment and rotatable therewith. At least one camming element is located such that rotation of the product compartment brings the chisel element into contact with the camming element, and that further rotation causes the chisel element to hinge downward, tear the seal thereby permitting the first and second reactants to mix, initiating a heating reaction.
