Abstract: A device for measuring one or more analytes in a sample fluid is provided. The device includes at least one aptamer sensor comprising a plurality of aptamers. The sensor provides a measurement of at least one of the analytes. In addition, the measurement is affected by changes in temperature ("a temperature-dependent response"). The device also includes a means to establish fluid communication between the at least one aptamer sensor and the sample fluid. Further, the device includes at least one temperature sensor and a means for correcting a measurement error due to the temperature-dependent response.

Abstract: Additive manufacturing of continuous-fiber reinforced composites. More particularly, aspects of the invention relate to additive manufacturing systems and methods for fabricating 3D parts from continuous-fiber reinforced composites such as carbon-fiber or glass-fiber pre impregnated ("pre-preg") sheets. A laser-assisted laminated object manufacturing method is used to fabricate continuous carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites (CFRPCs) using prepreg sheets with continuous-carbon fiber reinforcement. Graphene functions as a modifier between the prepreg sheets to improve the mechanical properties of the CFRPCs, specifically low porosity, high concentrations of continuous carbon fibers, and improved interfacial bonding strength. This composite architecture design, involving laminated continuous-carbon fiber reinforced prepreg sheets and graphene-modified interfaces, provides a readily scalable manufacturing method for producing 3D parts with desirable characteristics.

Abstract: A savonius wind turbine including a rotational shaft and a compound blade operatively coupled to the rotational shaft is provided. The compound blade includes a primary blade portion and a secondary blade portion. The primary blade portion extends between a first end and a second end and defines a primary concave surface therebetween. The secondary blade portion is coupled to the primary blade portion between the first end and the second end. The secondary blade portion defines a secondary concave surface configured to generate a torque about the rotational shaft.

Abstract: A vertical axis wind turbine including a nozzle is provided. The nozzle includes a first airfoil and a second airfoil. The first airfoil includes a first airfoil leading edge and a first airfoil trailing edge, and the second airfoil includes a second airfoil leading edge and a second airfoil trailing edge. The nozzle defines an inlet area disposed between the first airfoil leading edge and the second airfoil leading edge and an exit area disposed between the first airfoil trailing edge and the second airfoil trailing edge, wherein the exit area is smaller than the inlet area.

Abstract: Devices and methods for measuring an analyte. A sensing device (10) includes a sensor (12) and a detection circuit (14) operatively coupled to the sensor. The sensor includes a working electrode (16) having an aptamer and an attached redox couple to electrochemically measure the analyte. The detection circuit is configured to apply a first scan having a first scan range to the sensor, and determine a position of a redox peak in the first scan. In response to the first scan range not matching the position of the redox peak, the detector circuit defines a second scan range that matches the position of the redox peak, and applies a second scan having the second scan range to the sensor.
