    Abstract: A liquid phase process for direct utilization of inorganic metal carbonate and related salts under hydrogenative conditions to produce value-added fuels and feedstocks such as methanol, methane, carbon monoxide, and higher hydrocarbons. Advantageously, the reaction can use heterogeneous catalysts. The hydrogenation proceeds with high selectivity and yield for the desired product at relatively low temperatures, along with co-production of metal hydroxide. The metal hydroxide can be used to capture CO2, forming metal carbonates and bicarbonates that can be reused to produce more methanol and methane, hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide, closing the loop. Such a hydrogenation process can thus also be used in a "carbon capture and recycling" manner to produce renewable methane, methanol, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and other carbon feedstocks from CO2 sourced from any natural and anthropogenic emissions as well as from ambient air.

    Abstract: A method for producing enzyme mutants includes a generative model parameterized using homologous sequences of wild-type enzymes. Based on a distance between a mutated amino acid residue of each mutant and a corresponding substrate when the substrate is bound to the mutant being less than or equal to a first threshold, the processor may select a first candidate set of enzyme mutants and calculate a statistical energy of each mutant of the first candidate set, and identify, based on the calculated statistical energies, a first set of enzyme mutants among the first candidate set to improve enzyme efficiency. Based on the distance being larger than or equal to a second threshold, the processor may select a second candidate set of enzyme mutants and calculate a statistical energy of each mutant of the second candidate set, and identify, based on the calculated statistical energies, a second set of enzyme mutants among the second candidate set of enzyme mutants to improve protein stability.

    Abstract: Described herein is a novel, mitochondrial encoded, open reading frame that leads to the production of a new mitochondrial peptide called SHMOOSE. SHMOOSE is a 58-amino-acid peptide and, within its open reading frame, contains a genome-wide significant small nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) that markedly increased risk for Alzheimer's disease, brain structure, brain gene expression, and cognition. SHMOOSE increased neuronal-type cell survival and protected against amyloid beta toxicity. Metabolomic studies revealed a role for the peptide in energy optimization, whose dysfunction and dysregulation leads to cell death in physiologically notable regions of the brain in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Methods and compositions, including peptide analogues and derivatives, are described for treatment and diagnostics.

    Abstract: A compute in-memory architecture comprising multiple neurons is provided. Each neuron includes one or more storage compute cells, each of which includes a logic circuit configured to receive a multi-bit input and a weight. The weight is defined by one or more weight bits. The logic circuit is further configured to output a control voltage corresponding to logic 'HIGH' when XNOR operation between an input sign bit and a corresponding weight bit is 1 and a corresponding input magnitude bit is also 1. A first digital-to-analog converter is formed from a first MOSCAP group in electrical communication with the logic circuit. The first MOSCAP group includes a total number of MOSCAPs equal to input magnitude bit resolution times weight bit resolution. Characteristically, each MOSCAP in the first MOSCAP group has a first end that receives the control voltage, and a second end in electrical communication with a first summation line.

    Abstract: A plurality of sensors detect neural activity and/or muscle activity of a person. A display renders an image with an avatar that represents the person. A processor moves a portion of the avatar in response to calculations performed on signals corresponding to the neural activity and the muscle activity. The avatar may be caused to move in a manner corresponding to an expected muscle movement of the person. However, due to illness or disease, the person may be unable to fully execute the expected muscle movement. By watching the avatar move in response to efforts to execute an expected muscle movement, the person may train his or her body to more fully execute desired muscle movements, such as through neurofeedback for rehabilitation.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates to a rapid molecular imaging strategy that utilizes Raman spectroscopy to interrogate the molecular expression of samples, for example, histology samples. This disclosure also relates to surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy nanoparticles (SERS-NP) as contrast agents that exhibit unsurpassed multiplexing capabilities to offer exceptional specificity.     Abstract: A device and method for emitting an electrospray of ionized particles is disclosed, comprising a reservoir, an emitter in communication with the reservoir and having openings, wherein the openings are configured to permit release of the liquid media therefrom in response to a dynamic magnetic field; and an element for generating a dynamic magnetic field that runs through the emitter.
