A method for making absorbent articles includes forming discrete absorbent cores on a first nonwoven core wrap web; providing a second nonwoven core wrap web in facing relation with the first nonwoven core wrap web to create a composite web wherein the discrete absorbent cores are located between the first and the second nonwoven core wrap webs; at least partially bonding the composite web between the discrete absorbent cores; cutting the composite web between the discrete absorbent cores to form absorbent assemblies which include a first nonwoven core wrap web, a second nonwoven core wrap web and an absorbent core positioned between the first and second nonwoven core wrap webs, the absorbent assemblies include a rear extension region length of at least 30 mm; and joining the absorbent assemblies between a bodyside liner and an outercover to form absorbent articles.

A disposable absorbent article is disclosed having a waist opening and a pair of leg openings. The absorbent article has first, second and third pairs of leg elastics secured between an outer cover and an inner liner. The first, second and third leg elastics are arranged around each of the pair of leg openings with each of the third pair of leg elastics being positioned intermediate one of each of the first and second pairs of leg elastics. Each of the third pair of leg elastics is also separated from one of the first pair of leg elastics by a first gap and from one of the second pair of leg elastics by a second gap.
Abstract:
A method for forming and stabilizing an absorbent composite web includes conforming a first web onto a forming surface having a plurality of raised nubs having upper surfaces. The first web defines a plurality of bond areas corresponding to those portions of the first web overlying the upper surfaces of the nubs. The method further includes depositing absorbent material onto the first web to form a unitary absorbent core having a plurality of holes therein. The method further includes joining a second web to the first web at the bond areas to form an absorbent composite web. The unitary absorbent core is positioned between the first web and the second web. The first web and the second web are bonded together through the holes in the absorbent core. The method further includes removing the absorbent composite web from the forming surface.

In a method and apparatus for making an absorbent structure, an absorbent core and a wrapsheet are arranged in an unwrapped configuration with a first face of the absorbent core facing a first face of the wrapsheet, and with the absorbent core disposed laterally between laterally opposite side margins of the wrapsheet such that the side margins of the wrapsheet extend laterally outward beyond the side edges of the absorbent core. Gas is directed to flow over the first and second faces of the wrapsheet at the lateral side margins thereof in a direction which moves the lateral side margins of the wrapsheet from the unwrapped configuration around the side edges of the absorbent core and over at least a portion of the second face of the absorbent core to define a wrapped configuration of the wrapsheet.

An absorbent article includes a liquid pervious liner, a liquid impervious back sheet, and an absorbent composite located between the liner and the back sheet. The absorbent composite includes a first sheet, a second sheet, and a unitary absorbent core. The unitary absorbent core has a plurality of holes there through, wherein each hole has an area less than 200 mm2. The unitary absorbent core has a uniform density and is positioned between the first sheet and the second sheet. The first sheet is directly joined with the second sheet at a plurality of bond points. The bond points are located within the holes and are substantially devoid of absorbent material.

An absorbent article includes an outercover, a bodyside liner, and an absorbent assembly positioned between the outercover and the bodyside liner. The absorbent assembly includes an absorbent core at least partially enveloped by at least one nonwoven core wrap. The absorbent assembly has a rear extension region length of at least 30 mm. The absorbent core may include at least 60 percent superabsorbent and the bodyside liner may include apertures.

In an absorbent structure for an absorbent article, a non-woven absorbent core extends from one longitudinal end region of the absorbent structure through a central region thereof to an opposite longitudinal end region of the absorbent structure. The absorbent core has a first face, a second face opposite the first face, and laterally opposite side edges. A liquid permeable wrapsheet is wrapped about the first face, the laterally opposite side edges and at least a portion of the second face of the absorbent core to define a wrapped configuration of the wrapsheet. The wrapsheet is constructed of a non-woven material and is secured in its wrapped configuration about the absorbent core at least one securement region having a length substantially less than the length of the absorbent structure.

Absorbent structures are disclosed which may be incorporated into liquid absorbent products (10), such as diapers, adult incontinence products, feminine hygiene products, and the like. The absorbent structures are made from a fibrous material and include a pair of opposing lateral flaps (24, 26). The lateral flaps (24, 26) are folded onto the fibrous web. By folding the lateral flaps onto the fibrous web, greater basis weight areas may be formed on the absorbent structure. By varying the width of the lateral flaps, the basis weight differential may be increased and decreased. The lateral flaps also form the widest portion of the web material for facilitating folding during a continuous process. Through the system and process of the present invention, a fibrous web having a substantially uniform basis weight may be converted into absorbent structures having a differential basis weight with little or no waste produced. Further, the absorbent structures may be formed without having to subject the fibrous web to a scarfing process.

An absorbent structure can include a matrix of fibers, wherein the matrix is reinforced with a reinforcing member, such as scrim. The scrim is secured to the fibrous matrix by entanglement of fibers with the scrim and entanglement of fibers in the matrix from opposite sides of the scrim with each other. The scrim layer can be restricted to a longitudinally extending, medial region of the absorbent. In a particular arrangement, the scrim has a cross-directional width dimension which is less than a narrowest width dimension of the fibrous matrix. The scrim can be located between two, opposed, major surfaces of the fibrous matrix. The scrim has a reduced stiffness in the cross direction which promotes fit and comfort of the absorbent structure as incorporated into a disposable absorbent garment.
