Abstract:
A reinforced gasket material. A non-metallic scrim layer is interposed between layers of gasket material to provide strength to the gasket material. The layers of the gasket material can include binding agent to aid adhering to each other and to the non-metallic scrim layer. The non-metallic scrim layer can also be coated in binding agent. The layers of the gasket material can include high-temperature sealing material, compressed fiber, exfoliaed graphite, or polytetrafluoroethylene.
Abstract:
A pipe or tube article comprising an innermost comprising a grafted polyolefin composition made from a grafted polyolefin composition is disclosed which can provide long lifetime, highly abrasion-resistant pipes for mining and other transportation uses. Methods for preparing the article and transporting abrasive materials through the article are also described.
Abstract:
A fire-blocking paper (22, 52) is adapted for incorporation into a fire-barrier film laminate (16, 46) for use in thermal and acoustical insulation systems (10, 40), such as, but not limited to, those used in commercial aircraft. The fire-blocking inorganic fiber paper (22, 52) can be laminated to a flame resistant film (24a, 24b, 54a, 54b). The fire-blocking paper (22, 52) may include inorganic bio-soluble fiber, chopped glass non-respirable fibers, organic reinforcing fibers, organic binder, and inorganic binder or filler; and, optionally or refractory ceramic fibers.
Abstract:
An improved secondary carpet backing fabric imparts increased resistance to buckling in carpets compared to conventional widely used secondary backings while providing the performance of conventional secondary carpet backings (e.g., similar peel strength, tuft bind, ease of handling). The improved backing is produced by a one-step weaving process and can be converted easily into carpet using current carpet making techniques. The inventive secondary carpet backing contains core-spun filling yarn with specific properties and is preferably woven in a leno or plain weave. Compared to carpets with conventional secondary backings, carpets with the inventive secondary backings display reduced growth in cyclic tensile testing.
Abstract:
Fabrics and garments may include "dimensionalized" structures. The fabric may be "dimensionalized" by integrally forming a plurality of self-standing fabric surface modifying elements in the fabric material to thereby provide a fabric contact level different from (and/or reduced in surface area as compared to) the fabric base level. Garments may include this "dimensionalized" material, e.g., positioned at various locations to promote better evaporative cooling of the body or heat retention, such as along the wearer's spine, sides, and/or other locations that release substantial heat. The "dimensionalizing" structure may be formed in the material, for example, by molding, rolling, embossing, calendering, stretching, crimping, pressing, heating, and/or the like.
Abstract:
Pressure-sensitive adhesive articles with a backing that provides secure but reversible adhesion to the pressure-sensitive face of the article when the article is wound upon itself to form a roll. Such "non-stick" backings include a non- woven fabric carrying a binder, such as polychloroprene, butadiene-styrene copolymer or butadiene-styrene- acrylonitrile copolymer, that provides a soft and conformable layer that readily releases from an overlying adhesive layer of the article when the rolled article is unwound.
Abstract:
A gypsum board panel having two facing main surfaces and machine edge surfaces, the board including an outer gypsum layer in which a polymer additive has been entrained, and the machine edges being shaped to have a three-dimensional feature, such that the features are complementary, and one machine edge surface can engage the complementary surface of the machine edge of an adjacent gypsum board panel. The three-dimensional features may include a triangular, in cross- section, ridge, or a rectangular ledge, or a concave edge, with a corresponding complementary groove or depression on the opposed edge for engagement with the edge of an adjacent board. A plurality of fastener plugs, taking the form of, for example strips or dots, can be disposed on the outer facing surface of the board to provide an entry point for penetration of a fastener, such as a nail or screw, and a layer of sheathing material, for example a covering polymeric coating, is optionally disposed over the outer board panel surface to further enhance the moisture repellent properties of the board.
Abstract:
A bamboo Indoor/Outdoor Area Rug that is manufactured from 100% Anji Mountain bamboo from China. The bamboo is all treated with various protective coatings to add resistance to natural factors including water, sun and dirt. All bamboo rugs manufactured for outdoor/indoor use are made from the harder portions of the bamboo trunk. (Some bamboo used for indoor purposes only are manufactured from the softer fibers of the inside of the bamboo trunk). This portion of the bamboo trunk is not utilized for this invention. The bamboo utilized in the present invention is taken from the harder part of the bamboo trunk to assure maximum endurance and longevity. The lower trunk portion of the bamboo plant is harder and less porous.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a degradable extruded netting. The netting comprises a plurality of interconnected strands with at least some of the strands comprising a degradable composition comprising a polyolefin, a metal carboxylate, and an aliphatic poly hydroxy-carboxyl acid. In at least one embodiment, at least 10% of the strands are made of the degradable composition. The present invention also relates to a method for making degradable extruded netting. The method comprises extruding strands of polymeric material to form a netting wherein at least some of the strands are formed of the degradable composition.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a thin reinforced nonwoven fabric for fire blocking an article, articles containing such fabrics, and methods for making the fabrics and fire blocking the articles. When exposed to heat or flame, the fabric is capable of increasing its thickness by at least three times. The fabric comprises an open mesh scrim having a having crimped, heat-resistant organic fibers compressed thereon and held in a compressed state by a thermoplastic binder. When subjected to high heat or flame, the binder in the structure softens and flows, releasing the restrained crimped fibers and allowing the thickness of the fabric to increase dramatically.
