Abstract:
An apparatus (10) for turning steerable wheels (28, 124) of a vehicle (12) in response to input to a driver control interface (14) includes a sensor (18) for monitoring steering input to the driver control interface (14) and for providing a steering input signal indicative of the monitored steering input. Front and rear steering systems (24, 110 and 120, 126) are actuatable for turning front and rear sets of steerable wheels (28, 124), respectively. A controller (22), upon a malfunction of the front steering-system (24, 110), actuates only the rear steering system (120, 126) in response to the steering input signal.

Abstract:
A spectator seat (30) for optional use either in one mode of assembly as a carrying case for transporting articles to and from a stadium event or the like, such as a parade, or in another mode of assembly as a seat for attachment over a space on a conventional flat backless bench seat (18) and wherein the spectator seat is composed of a seat member (40) of open shell form with hooks (42, 44) extending downwardly from it and which are sized and configured for hooked-up engagement with the front portion of a flat bench-type stadium seat, a mating one-piece back member (46) of open shell form and wherein the backrest and seat member are adapted for telescopic interconnection of the backrest member in upstanding relation to the seat member and wherein the device includes a locking means (76, 77, 301, 302) to lock the two members into the carrying case mode for use in transporting articles to and from an event.
Abstract:
An apparatus (10) for use in turning steerable vehicle wheels (14, 16) includes a steering member (12) which is linearly movable relative to the vehicle to effect turning movement of the steerab!e vehicle wheels. A pinion (28) is disposed in meshing engagement with a rack portion (30) of the steering member (12). A steering column (22) is connected with the pinion (28) and with a vehicle steering wheel (20) such that rotation of the steering wheel results in linear movement of the steering member. An electrically powered steering unit (40) is connected to the steering member (12) for providing steering fee! to the operator. A hydraulic power steering motor (60) mechanically connected to the steering member provides steering assist to the steerable wheels (14, 16).
