Abstract: The present invention provides a system for solid state illumination where light from at least two assisting light sources are added to a phosphor converted light beam. To provide efficient and economical operation, different amounts of the assisting light can be added at different points in time. The overall brightness and/or the color performance of the system can be enhanced.
