Abstract: Catalytic process for preparing an α, β -ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid salt, wherein an alkene and carbon dioxide are reacted in the presence of a carboxylation catalyst and of an organic base that is homogeneously dissolved in a reaction medium, to obtain the α, β -ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid salt, wherein the reaction medium is in contact with a heterogeneous alkalinity reservoir, α, β -ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid derivatives are efficiently provided from CO 2 and an alkene.
