    Abstract: A sample collection container configured to be removably mounted to a blood collection device includes: a housing having a flow channel extending through the housing having an inlet and an outlet and a container body removably connected to the housing. The container body includes an open top, a closed bottom, and an interior wall extending between the top and the bottom defining a collection cavity. When the housing is connected to the container body, the outlet of the flow channel is in fluid communication with the collection cavity. The sample collection container also includes at least one additive dispersing object positioned to be contacted by blood flowing from the blood collection device through the flow channel and/or into the collection cavity. The at least one additive dispersing object includes an additive composition to be mixed with the blood passing along the flow channel and into the collection cavity.

    Abstract: A container assembly for collecting a fluid specimen including a collection container having a first end, a second end, and a sidewall extending therebetween and defining a chamber for receiving the fluid specimen. The container assembly may include a container lid couplable to the collection container to at least partially close the first end thereof. The container lid may include a sealing interface configured to at least partially contact the collection container when the container lid is coupled to the collection container. The sealing interface may include a textured sealing surface region configured to allow air into or out of the container assembly when the container lid is coupled to the collection container, while maintaining a substantially fluid-tight seal between the container lid and the collection container.

    Abstract: A simulation device allowing a user to practice use of a blood collection device includes a base support; a puncture target connected to the base support configured to be repeatedly punctured by a lancet of the blood collection device to practice use of the capillary blood collection device; and a fluid circulating system. The fluid circulating system includes a fluid reservoir, at least one port positioned within the puncture target, tubing extending at least partially through the puncture target between the reservoir and the at least one puncture port, and a pump for circulating the fluid from the reservoir to the at least one puncture port. The puncture target is sized to be connected to the blood collection device so that the capillary blood collection device punctures the target and the at least one puncture port to establish fluid communication with the tubing and reservoir.

    Abstract: A closure for protectively sealing a biological fluid collection device is disclosed. The closure includes a cap and an adapter or connector. The closure of the present disclosure allows for connection to multiple different blood collection devices. In a first configuration, with the cap connected to the adapter, the closure may be connected to a first blood collection device. In a second configuration, with the cap disconnected from the adapter, the closure may be connected to a second blood collection device. An advantage of the closure of the present disclosure is that it enables a single closure device to accommodate a variety of connection options, hi one embodiment, the closure includes a barrier in communication with a portion of the cap, and the barrier protectively shields a portion of the stopper and/or protectively shields a portion of the cap.

    Abstract: A sample collection container configured to be removably mounted to a blood collection device includes a container body and a lid. The container body defines an interior configured to receive a sample provided from the blood collection device. The container body includes an upper portion having an open top and a lower portion having a closed bottom. The lid includes: a lid body; a flexible connection connected between the lid body and the upper portion of the container body that moves the lid between a closed position and an open position; a pierceable septum mounted to the lid body that seals the upper portion open top when the lid is in the closed position; and a latch. The latch extends from the lid body and engages a catch on the upper portion of the container body to secure the lid in the closed position.
