Abstract:
A novel class of lanthanide metal phenoxyimine complexes can be used as an ingredient of a catalyst system. The catalyst system can be used in polymerizations of ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon monomers.
Abstract:
Blends of syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene and rubbery elastomers are prepared by a process that includes polymerizing 1,3-BD monomer into syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene within a rubber cement of at least one rubbery elastomer by using a catalyst composition that is formed by combining a hydrogen phosphite with a Cr-containing compound and an organomagnesium compound or with a Mo-containing compound and an organoaluminum compound.
Abstract:
A catalyst composition that is the combination of or the reaction product of ingredients including (a) a molybdenum-containing compound, (b) a hydrogen phosphite, and (c) a blend of two or more sterically distinct organoaluminum compounds is particularly useful for polymerizing conjugated dienes. When polymerizing 1,3-butadiene into syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene, the ratio of the organoaluminum compounds can be adjusted to vary the melting temperature and molecular weight of the polymer product.

A method for preparing a functionalized polymer, the method comprising the steps of: (i) polymerizing monomer to form a reactive polymer, and (ii) reacting the reactive polymer with a protected oxime compound containing a cyano group.
Abstract:
A method for preparing a functionalized polymer, the method comprising the steps of: (i) polymerizing monomer with an anionic initiator to form a reactive polymer; and (ii) reacting the reactive polymer with a nitrile compound containing a protected amino group, where the protected amino group is directly attached to a moiety selected from the group consisting of acyclic moieties, heterocyclic moieties, and non-aromatic cyclic moieties.
Abstract:
A vulcanizable composition of matter comprising a rubber component, a filler, a curative for the rubber, where the rubber component includes a multi-modal polymer including at least two distinct peak molecular weights within a range defined by a lower limit of 80 kg/mole and an upper limit of 500 kg/mole.
Abstract:
A functionalized polymer includes a polymer chain and a terminal functionality that includes at least one disilylamino group. The polymer can be the reaction product of a terminally active polymer chain and a compound that includes at least one disilylamino group and a group capable of reacting with terminally active polymers. Methods for making and using such polymers also are provided, as are compositions containing the polymer and one or more types of filler particles as well as vulcanizates provided from such compositions.
Abstract:
A polymer includes directly bonded aromatic pendent groups and at least one moiety defined by one of the following formulas: >N-N=CR 1 R 2 or -N=N-CR 1 R 2 - where R 1 and R 2 (a) are independently H or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, aryl, allyl, aralkyl, alkaryl, or alkynyl group, or (b) together form a substituted or unsubstituted alkylene, alkenylene, cycloalkylene, cycloalkenylene, or arylene group. The moiety can be attached to the polymer through one or both of the two open bonds and, where it is attached through only one bond, the other bond attaches to a hydrogen atom, i.e., the moiety is at a terminus of the polymer. Such polymers can be used to provide compositions that also include particulate fillers.
Abstract:
A novel class of aminidate complexes can be used as an ingredient of a catalyst system. The catalyst system can be used in polymerizations of ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon monomers.
