A railway car fitted with an induction generator comprising magnets and electrical conductors for generating electricity, comprising a chassis comprising at least one axle with two wheels, wherein the axle is mounted in two bearings located near the two sides of the railway car, wherein the wheels are located on the outer side of the bearings, and wherein the generator comprises a rotor and a substantially cylindrical stator, which stator extends concentrically around the rotor, wherein the rotor is fixedly mounted around and on the axle, wherein the stator is mounted to the inner side of one of the bearings, in axial abutment therewith.

An electrical power generation system includes a hydraulic pump configured to be switchable between operating in a first pump direction and in a second pump direction opposite the first pump direction and a hydraulic motor operably connected to the hydraulic pump to convert hydraulic flow into electrical power. The hydraulic motor has a motor inlet passage and a motor outlet passage. A hydraulic block is located in flow communication with the hydraulic pump and with the hydraulic motor. The hydraulic block is configured such that hydraulic fluid flow exiting the hydraulic block toward the hydraulic motor is directed through the motor inlet passage, regardless of whether the hydraulic pump is operating in the first pump or the second pump direction.

A vehicle having wheels for riding the vehicle over a carrier such as a road or rails, said vehicle having a battery and a generator connected thereto, said generator being arranged to generate electrical power for charging said battery, said generator being further mechanically connected to at least one of said wheels such that said wheel drives the rotor of said generator, characterized in that said generator is an asynchronous generator or a permanent magnet generator, wherein an AC/DC inverter/charger is connected between said generator and said battery for regulating the current and the voltage of the charging power to said battery.
