Abstract: Porous structures are made from compositions that include hollow glass bodies and an inorganic powder. The inorganic powder may act as a rigid frame member, a crystallization agent, or both, which reduces the shrinkage of the porous structures during firing. The porous structures made therefrom have an open porosity of greater than 70% and reduced shrinkage of less than 10% compared to the green structures prior to firing. Methods for firing the green structures made from the compositions are also disclosed, the firing methods including reducing a temperature ramping rate of the green structures during a crystallization temperature range of the glass of the hollow bodies.

Abstract: A method of plugging a filter, comprising: positioning a mask layer over the filter comprising a plurality of intersecting walls, wherein the intersecting walls define at least one channel between the intersecting walls; perforating the mask layer proximate the channel to form a hole, wherein the hole extends around a portion of a perimeter of the channel such that the mask layer defines a flap extending over a center of the channel; passing a plugging mixture into the channel through the hole in the mask layer; and sintering the plugging mixture to form a plug within the channel.

Abstract: A cement composition for plugging a honeycomb body, a plugged honeycomb body, and methods of plugging a honeycomb body are provided. Abstract: A method of making a porous structure configured for use in a particulate filter includes bonding a plurality of glass bubbles to one another, and breaching the plurality of glass bubbles. Voids within individual breached glass bubbles open into one another to form cavities that extend through the porous structure.
