Abstract: L'invention concerne un procédé d'injection de particules céramiques dans une texture fibreuse (10) comprenant le placement d'une texture fibreuse (10) dans un moule (110), l'injection par un côté d'une première suspension comprenant une poudre de particules de filtration de taille importante pour former une couche de filtration (130), l'injection par le côté opposé d'une deuxième suspension dans la texture fibreuse, la deuxième suspension comprenant une poudre de particules céramiques réfractaires de petite taille, puis le drainage à travers la couche de filtration (130) de la phase liquide de la deuxième suspension ayant traversé la texture fibreuse et rétention de la poudre de particules céramiques réfractaires à l'intérieur de ladite texture fibreuse (10) par la couche de filtration de manière à obtenir une préforme fibreuse comprenant au moins la texture fibreuse chargée de particules céramiques réfractaires et la couche de filtration (130).

Abstract: A particulate filter and method of manufacture. The particulate filter includes intersecting walls that define longitudinally extending channels. The intersecting walls comprise a porous ceramic material having a bare microstructure that comprises an interconnected network of porous spheroidal ceramic beads that has an open intrabead porosity within the beads and an interbead porosity defined by interstices between the beads. Catalyst particles are deposited at least partially within the intrabead porosity within the interbead porosity. The bare microstructure has a bimodal pore size distribution in which an intrabead median pore size of the intrabead porosity is less than an interbead median pore size of the interbead porosity. The filter has a trimodal pore size distribution comprising a first peak corresponding to the interbead porosity, a second peak corresponding to the intrabead porosity, and a third peak corresponding to the intrabead porosity as blocked by the catalyst particles.

Abstract: A cubic boron nitride particle population having highly-etched surfaces and a high toughness index is produced by blending a reactive metal powder with a plurality of cubic boron nitride particles to form a blended mixture. The blended mixture is compressed to form a compressed mixture. The compressed mixture is subjected to a temperature and a pressure, where the temperature is controlled to cause etching of the plurality of cubic boron nitride particles by reaction of cubic boron nitride with the reactive metal powder, thereby forming a plurality of etched cubic boron nitride particles. Also, the temperature and pressure are controlled to cause boron nitride to remain in a cubic boron nitride phase. Afterwards, the plurality of etched cubic boron nitride particles is recovered from the compressed mixture to form the particle population. Preferably, the particle population contains no hexagonal boron nitride.
