Abstract:
A system for detecting a range extension type relay attack includes a transmitter, a receiver and a module. The transmitter transmits a RF signal from one of a vehicle and a portable access device to the other one of the vehicle and the portable access device. The receiver receives a response signal in response to the RF signal. The module: generates a parameter associated with the transmission of the RF signal and the reception of the response signal; based on the parameter, detects the range extension type relay attack performed by an attacking device, where at least one of (i) the RF signal is relayed via the attacking device from the vehicle to the portable access device, or (ii) the response signal is relayed via the attacking device from the portable access device to the vehicle; and perform a countermeasure in response to detecting the range extension type relay attack.
Abstract:
A method for tracking an object through a system onboard a motor vehicle is provided. The method includes detecting a wireless device, determining a position of the wireless device, recognizing the position of the wireless device relative to the vehicle, analyzing the position of the wireless device with respect to a predefined conditional statement and activating an alert according to the satisfying of the predefined conditional statement.
Abstract:
A method for delegating control of a vehicle feature to a wearable electronic device is provided. The method includes the following: wireless pairing the wearable electronic device to at least one of a smart device or a vehicle controller onboard a vehicle; delegating control of the vehicle feature to the wearable electronic device using at least one of the smart device or the vehicle controller such that a wearer of the wearable electronic device can control the vehicle feature using the wearable electronic device; and operating the vehicle feature based on commands generated by the user using the wearable electronic device.
Abstract:
A smart device interface for a vehicle. The smart device interface includes a transmitter/receiver and a controller. The transmitter/receiver is configured to communicate with a first smart device of a driver and a second smart device of a passenger. The controller is configured to permit the passenger to perform tasks on behalf of the driver using the second smart device. The tasks include responding to messages received by the first smart device of the driver, entertainment system operation, and navigation system operation.
Abstract:
A system and method for determining location information of a portable device relative to an object is provided. The system and method may include communicating with a secondary portable device separate from the portable device, which may be considered a primary portable device. The secondary portable device may be not be configured to communicate with the object or unaware that it is communicating with the object, and may receive communication parameters from the primary portable device.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for localization and passive entry/passive start (PEPS) systems for vehicles are provided. A communication gateway in a vehicle establishes a Bluetooth low energy (BLE) communication connection with a portable device. Sensors are configured to receive connection information about the BLE communication connection from the communication gateway, eavesdrop on the BLE communication connection, and measure signal information about communication signals sent from the portable device to the communication gateway. A localization module is configured to determine a location of the portable device based on the signal information from the plurality of sensors. A PEPS system is configured to receive the location of the portable device from the localization module and to perform a vehicle function including at least one of unlocking a door of the vehicle, unlocking a trunk of the vehicle, and allowing the vehicle to be started based on the location of the portable device.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for vehicle passive entry / passive start (PEPS) are provided. A communication gateway establishes a Bluetooth low energy communication connection with a portable device. A localization module determines a portable device location based on two-way ranging using impulse radio ultra-side band. The PEPS system performs vehicle functions, such as unlocking a door or trunk, allowing the vehicle to be started, or activating wireless charging, based on the portable device location. Another system includes at least one low frequency (LF) antenna configured to transmit a wireless charging ping signal within a predetermined range to a portable device configured for wireless charging. A communication gateway authenticates the portable device based on a response to the ping signal by the portable device. A PEPS performs vehicle functions, such as unlocking a door or trunk, or allowing the vehicle to be started, in response to authenticating the portable device.
Abstract:
A communication gateway establishes a Bluetooth low energy communication connection with a portable device. A localization module determines a portable device location based on two-way ranging using impulse radio (IR) ultra-wide band (UWB). The PEPS system performs vehicle functions based on the portable device location. Another system includes a low frequency (LF) antenna configured to transmit a wireless charging ping signal within a predetermined range to a portable device configured for wireless charging. A communication gateway authenticates the portable device based on a response to the ping signal by the portable device. The PEPS system performs vehicle functions in response to the communication gateway authenticating the portable device.
