Abstract:
The present technology provides a bisphenol A capture system for food and beverage containers which include BPA-containing coatings. The capture system is made of one or more materials which bind any BPA eluting from the BPA-containing coating. The present capture system therefore reduces or prevents BPA from migrating from the can coating into the food or beverages stored in the can. The present technology further provides methods of manufacturing and using such coatings.
Abstract:
A lighting device includes a light guide structure. The light guide structure is arranged in tiers by a plurality of thin-film modules in which a portion of a first surface of each lower one of the plurality of light guide layers is covered by an upper one of the plurality of light guide layers to form an uncovered portion of the first surface. Each of the thin-film modules is configured to transmit light therein emitted from light emitting diodes (LEDs) to the uncovered portion and emit the light from the uncovered portion of the first surface thereof.
Abstract:
Processes for isolating nanoparticles from an aqueous solution are disclosed. The processes can include, for example, providing an aqueous mixture having a plurality of nanoparticles and at least one thermal hysteresis molecule; adjusting the aqueous mixture to a temperature effective to form ice crystals within the aqueous mixture; and isolating the ice crystals from the aqueous mixture. Also disclosed are compositions and systems for isolating nanoparticles.
Abstract:
A cleaning apparatus comprises a container configured to hold an article to be cleaned, a cleaning solvent dispenser configured to supply a cleaning solvent to the container, an energy generator configured to provide thermal energy to an interior of the container; and a control device in communication with the energy generator and configured to select thermal energy sufficient to sublimate the particles. The cleaning solvent comprises a solvent and nanofabricated particles dispersed therein. The control device controls the energy generator to provide thermal energy to the cleaning solvent in container in which the article is submerged in order to cause sublimation of the particles.
Abstract:
A cleaning method uses a cleaning agent in which microcapsules are dispersed therein. Each of the microcapsules encapsulates a gas precursor, which is capable of undergoing a phase transition to a gas phase by application of ultrasonic wave energy. In the cleaning method, clothing to be cleaned is wetted with the cleaning agent, and then an ultrasonic wave is applied to the clothing to cause the microcapsules to expand and explode, releasing gas. Explosion energy of the microcapsules contribute to remove dirt stains from the clothing. In order to facilitate absorption of the cleaning agent, a smaller ultrasonic wave may be applied to the article before applying the ultrasonic wave for explosion.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to purification and / or sterilization techniques and devices. Methods and systems are provided herein for removing contaminants from air using a combination of an ionic liquid and a reactive oxygen species.
Abstract:
Compositions containing a reverse micelle comprising a first compound and a second compound are disclosed, wherein the second compound is configured to change conformation in response to a stimulus, a first conformation selected for formation of the reverse micelle, and a second conformation selected for disruption of the reverse micelle; and wherein the first compound is selected to interact with the first conformation of the second compound to form the reverse micelle.
Abstract:
An air purification system comprises a chamber having an air inlet and an air outlet, a plurality of flexible wires hanging from a ceiling of the chamber, a spray mechanism configured to spray droplets in the chamber, and a sound wave generator configured to generate a standing sound wave in the chamber. During operation of the air purification system, the plurality of flexible wires are elastically deformed by the standing sound wave generated by the sound wave generator such that portions of the plurality of flexible wires converge at nodes of the sound wave, and also the droplets move to the nodes of the standing sound wave, while trapping particles in the air during the movement to the nodes. The droplets collide against and are adsorbed to the plurality of flexible wires at the nodes of the sound wave.
Abstract:
A fluid cooling system comprising a pipe unit through which coolant fluid flows. The pipe unit is provided with one or more actuators at least a part of which is formed of shape memory alloy. The actuators are configured to extend by applied heat.
Abstract:
