Abstract: A lighting device includes a light guide structure. The light guide structure is arranged in tiers by a plurality of thin-film modules in which a portion of a first surface of each lower one of the plurality of light guide layers is covered by an upper one of the plurality of light guide layers to form an uncovered portion of the first surface. Each of the thin-film modules is configured to transmit light therein emitted from light emitting diodes (LEDs) to the uncovered portion and emit the light from the uncovered portion of the first surface thereof.

Abstract: A cleaning apparatus comprises a container configured to hold an article to be cleaned, a cleaning solvent dispenser configured to supply a cleaning solvent to the container, an energy generator configured to provide thermal energy to an interior of the container; and a control device in communication with the energy generator and configured to select thermal energy sufficient to sublimate the particles. The cleaning solvent comprises a solvent and nanofabricated particles dispersed therein. The control device controls the energy generator to provide thermal energy to the cleaning solvent in container in which the article is submerged in order to cause sublimation of the particles.

Abstract: A cleaning method uses a cleaning agent in which microcapsules are dispersed therein. Each of the microcapsules encapsulates a gas precursor, which is capable of undergoing a phase transition to a gas phase by application of ultrasonic wave energy. In the cleaning method, clothing to be cleaned is wetted with the cleaning agent, and then an ultrasonic wave is applied to the clothing to cause the microcapsules to expand and explode, releasing gas. Explosion energy of the microcapsules contribute to remove dirt stains from the clothing. In order to facilitate absorption of the cleaning agent, a smaller ultrasonic wave may be applied to the article before applying the ultrasonic wave for explosion.

Abstract: An air purification system comprises a chamber having an air inlet and an air outlet, a plurality of flexible wires hanging from a ceiling of the chamber, a spray mechanism configured to spray droplets in the chamber, and a sound wave generator configured to generate a standing sound wave in the chamber. During operation of the air purification system, the plurality of flexible wires are elastically deformed by the standing sound wave generated by the sound wave generator such that portions of the plurality of flexible wires converge at nodes of the sound wave, and also the droplets move to the nodes of the standing sound wave, while trapping particles in the air during the movement to the nodes. The droplets collide against and are adsorbed to the plurality of flexible wires at the nodes of the sound wave.
