Abstract:
The present invention is a new method of making a confectionery mass, such as a nougat, by hydrating sufficiently to form the mass without the need for cooking to drive off moisture. The present invention also includes a product prepared by positively hydrating a mixture of confectionery ingredients including a hydrobinding component and shearform product.
Abstract:
Biodegradable controlled release delivery systems using melt-spun biodegradable polymers as carriers for bio-effecting agents such as pharmaceutical actives are disclosed. Oral dosage forms as well as implants are described.
Abstract:
The present invention is a method of preparing a system for delivering a bio-affecting agent and the composition prepared thereby. The invention includes forming a solid dispersion of the bio-affecting agent in an increased energy state in a water-soluble polymer which is compatible with the bio-affecting agent. As a consequence of transforming the bio-affecting agent to an increased-energy condition and freezing it in such condition in a water-soluble polymer, the bio-affecting agent is made available ("bio-available") to a bio-system upon dissolution of the polymer. This method and composition has been found extremely effective for delivery of otherwise substantially non-soluble drugs and other bio-affecting ingredients.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method and apparatus (10) for forming a compression dosage unit such as a tablet. The method of the present invention includes dispensing a premeasured volume of tableting feedstock (30) into a product tray (25). The feedstock is compacted into a tablet within the product tray. The product tray may be further packaged for distribution and sale. The apparatus of the present invention includes a dossiter (39) for dispensing the premeasured volume of feedstock into the product tray from a reservoir (40). A die is insertable into the product tray to form the tablet therein. The dossiter may be used to form the tablets within the product tray.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus (10) is provided for the formation of a tablet (21) from tableting feedstock (20). An elongate die is provided which has a cavity (16) defined by an inner wall (18). A pair of die punches (22, 24) are insertably positioned within the cavity. The die punches include opposed facing surfaces (30) for supporting therebetween tableting feedstock. The die punch are relatively movable within the cavity to a tablet forming position to compress the feedstock into a tablet. The tablet forming positions defined by the facing die punch surfaces are spaced apart a sufficient distance so as to maintain the formed tablet in contact with the inner wall of the cavity so as to retain the tablet within the cavity upon removal of the die punches.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus provides for the formation of compression dosage units from tableting feedstock (36). A feedstock dossiter (10) is provided including an open ended chamber (26) for insertion into a reservoir containing the tableting feedstock. The dossiter includes a movable die punch (30) which is movable within the chamber between at least two positions. A first position away from the open end (24) of the chamber provides for the collection of a preselected volume of tableting feedstock from the reservoir. The die punch is movable to a second position which effects formation of the tablet within the accumulation chamber. The dossiter may be used with a fixed die punch to form the tablet.
