Embodiments of the present disclosure describe techniques and configurations for handling a wait time in a wireless communication network when the network is determined to be congested. An apparatus may include computer-readable media having instructions and one or more processors coupled with the computer-readable media and configured to execute the instructions to send a radio resource control request message to a wireless network controller, receive a response message including an extended wait time value, determine upon receipt of the response message whether a back-off timer associated with the apparatus is running, and determine whether to start the backoff timer with the received extended wait time value based at least in part on the determination of whether the back-off timer is running and the received wait time value is integrity protected.

Embodiments of a mobile device and method for secure on-line sign-up and provisioning of credential for Wi-Fi hotspots using SOAP-XML techniques are generally described herein. Techniques for subscription remediation using SOAP-XML techniques are also generally described herein. In some embodiments, the mobile device may be configured to establish a transport-layer security (TLS) session with a sign-up server through a Wi-Fi Hotspot to receive a certificate of the sign-up server. When the certificate is validated, the mobile device may be configured to exchange device management messages with the sign-up server to sign-up for a Wi-Fi subscription and provisioning of credentials, and retrieve a subscription management object (MO) that includes a reference to the provisioned credentials for storage in a device management tree.

Technology for communicating a short message service (SMS) communication in a packet switched (PS) domain of an evolved packet system (EPS) network. One method comprises receiving, at a core network (CN) control node, a request message from a user equipment (UE) indicating that the UE supports PS based SMS and performs a circuit switched (CS) registration only to receive SMS service via a CS domain; and sending, from the CN control node, an accept message to the UE indicating that SMS over a non-access stratum (NAS) is supported by the CN control node.

In various embodiments, a proximity between first and second mobile devices that are in wireless communication with each other may be monitored. In various embodiments, a selective transition of a service flow between the first and second mobile devices from being indirect through the radio network access node using a first radio access technology ("RAT") to being direct using a second RAT may be facilitated, e.g., responsive to a determination that a first criterion has been met. Methods and apparatus for moving or transferring a mobile station from one type of wireless network to another type of wireless network are described herein. The methods may include employing a source radio access technology (RAT) device, a target RAT device, and a cross wireless network type inter-RAT server to collaboratively communicate with each other to move the mobile station between the different types of wireless networks.

A media independent trigger model for multiple network types is disclosed. A change in communication environment trigger is communicated from a media dependent interface to an upper media independent application. The communication environment trigger may be from a local event detected by the interface or may be a remote trigger received from another device. The upper media independent application adjusts operations according to the communication environment trigger.

The instructions configure the UE for RDS communications as an originator UE in a CIOT system and cause the UE to perform operations comprising encoding a Manage_Port command for transmission to a receiver UE. The Manage_Port command including a query for the availability of a plurality of destination ports of the receiver UE. A Manage_Port response from the receiver UE is decoded. The Manage_Port response includes, for each destination port of a subset of the plurality of destination ports, a destination port number, a source port number of a source port of the originator UE the destination port is paired with, and an application ID of an application executing on the originator UE. Data associated with the application is encoded for an RDS communication between the source port and the destination port.

An integrated WLAN/WWAN architecture is described, in which signaling used to control the integration of the WLAN/WWAN architecture is performed over the Radio Resource Control ("RRC") plane. The integrated architecture may provide a network-controlled framework for performing traffic steering and radio resource management. Additionally, according to the disclosure provided herein, the integrated architecture may interwork with legacy systems (e.g., architectures that do not support the integrated WLAN/WWAN architecture).
