Abstract: A method is provided for determining one or more tissue boundaries within ultrasound image data of anatomical region. The method is based on generating two separate images from the same input ultrasound data, acquired in a single acquisition event. One image is generated with contrast enhancement, so that boundaries surrounding a fluid-containing region are especially well visible and, the second image is generated without this enhancement, or with a different enhancement so that boundaries surrounding tissue regions are especially well visible. An image segmentation procedure is then applied which uses a combination of both images as input and uses both to determine the boundaries within the imaged regions.

Abstract: A system and method for achieving more accurate results when applying an image processing task to a series of medical images of a patient, without significantly increasing processing resource. The proposed system and method is based on receiving a plurality of image sequences of a particular anatomical region, each capturing cyclical movement of an anatomical object. Each image sequence is supplied to a classifier module which employs use of one or more machine learning algorithms to derive at least one score for each image sequence indicative of predicted success or quality of a result of the image processing task if applied to the given image series. This permits an assessment to be made in advance of which of the plurality of image series is most likely to result in the best (e.g. highest quality, or greatest amount of information) results from the image processing task. This allows maximization of the quality of image processing results, without the need to actually process each of the image series with the image processing task, which would consume a large amount of processing resource and consume time.

Abstract: The invention provides a method for refining a mapped surface mesh of a cardiac chamber. The method includes obtaining a mapped surface mesh of the cardiac chamber anatomy, wherein the mapped surface mesh comprises a central region representing a cardiac chamber and an outer region representing a peripheral cardiac structure connected to the cardiac chamber, and wherein the mapped surface mesh comprises a first view of an anatomical landmark within the cardiac chamber, and obtaining image data of a cardiac chamber anatomy of a subject. The central region of the mapped surface mesh is deformed based on a first segmentation algorithm configured according to one or more predetermined shape- constraints and the outer region of the mapped surface mesh is deformed based on a second segmentation algorithm configured according to the image data, thereby generating a deformed outer region. The deformed central region and the deformed outer region are then combined, thereby generating a refined mapped surface mesh.

Abstract: A method for use in image reconstruction of CT projection data, which aims at reducing motion artefacts in reconstructed images caused by movement of anatomical bodies. Embodiments are based on mitigating motion artefacts based on restricting the range of data that is used for reconstructing each slice. More particularly, a sub-range of the projection data corresponding to each slice is selected, this sub-range being chosen based on determining one or more sub-windows of visibility of a target anatomical object or event within the projection data sequence. The event may be a particular phase of a movement cycle of the anatomical body. The structure could be a particular portion of the anatomical body which is of interest. Either approach leads to reduction of motion artefacts within a single slice, by restricting the data range, and focusing upon the data which is most relevant clinically.
