Abstract: An optoelectronic device (20, 90, 120) includes a photonic integrated circuit (PIC) (24, 92, 94, 126), which includes a PIC substrate (34), having a first side mounted on a carrier substrate (26, 96), first electrical connection pads (70, 130) on a second side of the PIC substrate, optical waveguides (52) on the PIC substrate, and electrical conductors (68, 134) disposed on the PIC substrate and connecting to one or more of the first electrical connection pads. At least one electronic integrated circuit (22, 100, 122, 124) includes a semiconductor substrate (74) having a third side mounted on the second side of the PIC substrate and second electrical connection pads (72, 128) on the semiconductor substrate in electrical communication with the first electrical connection pads. One or more electronic circuit components (76, 78, 80, 82) on the semiconductor substrate are connected electrically to the second electrical connection pads.

Abstract: An optoelectronic device (20, 50, 120, 320, 500, 540, 560, 600) includes an array (32, 72, 124) of optical transceiver cells (34, 74, 90, 126, 522) disposed on a planar substrate (30). Each transceiver cell includes an optical transducer (36) configured to couple optical radiation between the transceiver cell and a target. An optical distribution tree (122) including a network (38, 76, 428, 518, 524) of waveguides (142, 150) and switches (146, 429), is disposed on the substrate and coupled to convey coherent radiation from a radiation source (52, 128, 130, 426, 510, 606) to the optical transceiver cells. A controller (48) is configured to actuate the switches so as to select different subsets of the optical transceiver cells that are to receive the coherent radiation from the optical distribution tree and to transmit the coherent radiation toward the target at different times during a scan of the target.

Abstract: An optoelectronic device (28, 130) includes an array (32, 152) of optical transceiver cells (34, 90, 162) including respective optical transducers (36, 134, 164) configured to couple optical radiation between the transceiver cells and a target through respective optical apertures defined by the optical transducers. A tunable radiation source (22, 210, 240) outputs coherent radiation while tuning a wavelength of the coherent radiation over a selected range. An optical distribution network (38) conveys the coherent radiation from the radiation source to the optical transceiver cells for transmission via the optical transducers toward the target. Projection optics (44, 140, 154) project the optical apertures onto respective fields of view on the target, and include a dispersive element (148, 156), which shifts the fields of view across the target responsively to the tuning of the wavelength.

Abstract: An optoelectronic device (20, 50) includes a planar substrate (30), an optical bus (40, 82, 84, 96, 140, 150, 180, 182, 224) disposed on the substrate and configured to convey coherent radiation through the bus, and an array (32, 72) of sensing cells (34, 74, 90, 160, 170, 200, 212, 380) disposed on the substrate. Each sensing cell includes at least one tap (92, 94, 144, 146, 226, 228) coupled to extract a portion of the coherent radiation propagating through the optical bus, an optical transducer (36, 108, 162, 172, 202, 204, 214) configured to couple optical radiation between the sensing cell and a target external to the substrate, and a receiver (114, 174, 178, 216, 218), which is coupled to mix the coherent radiation extracted by the tap with the optical radiation received by the optical transducer and to output an electrical signal responsively to the mixed radiation.
