    Abstract: The present invention relates to a system for detecting and measuring a constricted region of a blood vessel from a medical image, characterized by a width measurement unit (42, 51 ) for measuring the width values of the blood vessel, a diameter calculation unit (43, 53) for determining the diameter of the blood vessel based on the measured width values, a comparison unit (45, 54) for computing the diameter difference in percentage as compared to a maximum diameter, and a constriction length measurement unit (47, 55) for determining the length of the constricted region. The present invention further relates to a method measuring the width of the blood vessel at a plurality of points by a width measuring unit (42, 51 ), obtaining diameter of a single or a group of the plurality of points by a diameter calculation unit (43, 53) based on the widths obtained by the width measuring unit (42, 51), and computing the differences in percentage of the diameter from a maximum diameter by a comparison unit (54).
