The present disclosure describes ultrasound imaging systems and methods that may be used to assist clinicians in locating lesions during an ultrasound exam that were previously located from images acquired by another imaging system, for example, a magnetic resonance imaging system. A lesion location interface is disclosed that provides visual indications of predicted lesion locations on a display. The predicted lesion locations may be determined by a deformation model included in an ultrasound imaging system as disclosed herein.

The present invention relates to an ultrasound imaging system (12) that simultaneously creates and displays images from two or more intersecting planes in real time. The system includes an ultrasound probe head (1) and a console (2). The probe head (1) has a transducer field or a combination of at least two transducer arrays to generate two or more imaging planes. The console can address the electronic signal (to emit ultrasound waves) to different transducer arrays or to combinations of transducers in the same probe and thus generate corresponding images from different imaging planes which the console can display simultaneously. The invention as well relates to a method that combines in-plane and out-of- plane instrument guidance.

Prostate biopsy systems are provided that include a 3D ultrasound probe support configured to receive an ultrasound probe for transperineal imaging. One or more template grids can have a plurality of apertures extending therethrough to receive and guide a biopsy needle along a trajectory associated with respective apertures when the template grid is fixed to the support and the biopsy system is positioned in the perineal area of a patient. Patient-specific template grids can also be developed and produced. This system enables fully transperineal prostate biopsy (i.e. both imaging and needle placement are perineal) and eliminates the need for an external racking device for image fusion as well as needle tracking. In addition, it reduces the infection risk associated to transrectal approach.

While the endoluminal device moves along the portion of the lumen, a display (40) displays an extraluminal image of the lumen in which a first indication of a location of the lumen is shown. The extraluminal imaging device acquires a sequence of extraluminal images of the endoluminal device moving along the portion of the lumen. The indication of the location of the lumen that is displayed is updated based upon the acquired sequence of extraluminal images, and the acquired sequence of images is displayed with the updated indication of the location of the lumen overlaid upon the images.
