Abstract: Disclosed herein is an ortho-nitrobenzyl compound, or a stereoisomer or salt thereof, and a composition comprising the same, as well as processes for the preparation of the same. Also disclosed herein is a method of using the ortho-nitrobenzyl compound, or a stereoisomer thereof, in probes capable of hybridizing to, detecting or sequencing nucleic acid molecules.
