    Abstract: A coded light transmission and reception circuit and transmission and reception method use signals to indicate the start and end of a coded light transmission window. Data is modulated onto the current waveform during the transmission window. Each data peak value during said transmission window exceeds an average current in the transmission window (which is used as the decision level) and each valley value during said transmission window is below the average current. In this way, a coded light output can be generated in which the overall decision current varies significantly, but the coded light signal can still be decoded reliably. The average level can be calculated in the receiver and used for demodulating.

    Abstract: An LED driver uses a switch mode power supply either to provide a regulated LED current (in a first mode) that connects directly to the LED arrangement or a regulated LED voltage (in a second mode) to an LED output terminal. An auxiliary power supply is either based on an auxiliary secondary side (i.e. an auxiliary secondary side winding) when in the first mode, or it is based on the regulated LED voltage when in the second mode. The LED driver further comprises an input adapted to receive a standby command for the driver, wherein the main controlling unit is adapted to control the driver in the second mode when receiving the standby command for the driver. In this way, the driver has a single shared stage which can operated in a regulated current (i.e. constant current) mode to drive the LED arrangement directly or a regulated voltage (i.e. constant voltage) mode. It can adaptively change between modes to improve the standby power efficiency. When the load is turned on (e.g. a first mode), the driver may function in constant current mode, and when the load is turned off (e.g. a second, standby mode), the driver works in constant voltage mode with the output voltage stepped down so that not sufficient to turn on the LED arrangement to be driven by the driver but enough to provide auxiliary power via the auxiliary power supply, in order to improve the auxiliary power efficiency.

    Abstract: A level control circuit uses a reference voltage generated from a mains voltage signal by a reference circuit to provide a feedforward control signal. This control signal is used to generate a control signal for controlling a switched mode power converter. The reference circuit comprises a combining circuit adapted to apply a pulse width modulation control signal indicative of said level such that said reference voltage contains the level information. In an embodiment, the reference circuit comprises a voltage divider comprising a resistor circuit and the combining circuit comprises an adjustment module to which a pulse width modulation control signal is applied thereby to change the effective voltage divider ratio to implement level control. The level control further comprises a buffering capacitor or a buffered low pass filter coupled to the output (SET) of the voltage divider. This provides a power factor correction approach for active level control, and which can be implemented very simply and with low cost. It can be used for controlling lighting dimming.
