Abstract: A sound insulating material for applying to a surface is provided. The material includes a substrate layer; a first fibrous layer and a second fibrous layer. The first fibrous layer is fixed to the substrate layer and comprises hollow fibers. The second fibrous layer is fixed to the first fibrous layer and also comprises the hollow fibers. The density and the basis weight of the second fibrous layer are each of a different value than the density and the basis weight of the first fibrous layer, respectively.

Abstract: A nonwoven material is provided. The nonwoven material includes hollow plant fibers having a mean length L 1 and a second fibrous material, the hollow plant fibers and the second fibrous material are mixed substantially homogeneously and are thermally bonded together. The hollow plant fibers originate from harvested hollow plant fibers having an initial mean length L 0 , wherein the ratio L 1 :L 0 is from 0.5 to 1.
