Abstract:
A system and method for creating an ad hoc communications group in a push-to-talk (PTT) system. A user may create an ad hoc group for a PTT communications by selecting members from different sources in a wireless communications device. The user may select members from a caller identification list, a recent call list, or a contact list. The ad hoc communications group thus composed is sent to a server and the server will then set up a PTT communications among the members of this ad hoc group.
Abstract:
A system and method for a wireless service provider to provide activation of an application by a subscriber who has a plurality of wireless communications devices in a single subscription account. The subscriber can access the application from any one of the wireless communications devices, but only one activation at a time is allowed for each subscription account.
Abstract:
Embodiments include a method of increasing advertisement viewing time by a user of a broadcast reception and rendering device, comprising: rendering a broadcast stream associated with a channel from the plurality of channels; providing an interface to the user for changing the rendered channel to a second channel from the plurality of channels; detecting that the user is engaging with the interface for changing the rendered channel; and in response to the detecting, displaying at least one advertisement, the advertisement selected by reference to the user profile and displayed during the channel change. Embodiments also include a method of providing advertisements to a mobile device comprising: receiving a signal indicative of user interest in the displayed advertisement; detecting a request from the user to change a channel on the mobile device; and in response to the detection, displaying data relating to the advertisement.
Abstract:
An embodiment includes a method of recording a broadcast program. The method includes storing at least a first portion of a program, the program being broadcast during a first period, identifying at least a second portion of the program, identifying a subsequent broadcast of the program during a second period, and storing the subsequent broadcast of the program starting at a position that is based on the second portion. Other aspects include systems, apparatus, and devices for recording multiple portions of a broadcast program during multiple broadcast time periods.
Abstract:
A method for increasing data transmission efficiency in a broadcast network having at least one unicast transmission link and at least one multicast transmission link to a mobile device, the method comprising: identifying a viewing trend based upon monitored viewing activity of first content data by a first plurality of users over the unicast transmission link; determining, based upon the identified trend, that a viewing audience will exceed a target threshold for second content data; and in response to the determination, broadcasting the second content data to a second plurality of users over the multicast transmission link to increase data transmission efficiency in the broadcast network. This method may also be used to promote the dissemination of useful or popular information such as service awareness as part of marketing activities.
Abstract:
Methods, devices, apparatus, computer-readable media and processors are provided that protect the distribution of media content. Media content is encrypted and the associated cryptographic mechanisms are stored and accessible either remotely at a networked database or internally within a data storage device memory. Access to the cryptographic mechanisms is granted by associating the cryptographic mechanisms with a data storage device identification and, optionally, a computing device identification.
Abstract:
A communication receiver for identifying an incoming calling group, and a method of identifying a caller making an incoming call to a receiver in a communication system, are disclosed. The communication receiver includes a communication receiver, and a visual display which is responsively connected to the communication receiver, wherein the visual display displays thereon at least one indicator in response to an incoming call on the communication receiver. Each indicator uniquely corresponds to one call group. The method includes receiving an incoming call at the communication telephone, receiving information based on a generation point of the incoming call, checking for a correspondence between the received information and a list of known information stored at the receiver, and indicating, at a visual interface, the correspondence.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus providing a user interface within a phone that responds to a limited vocabulary of user trained voice commands. The interface allows users to perform all phone handset dialing functions using voice commands. Additionally, users will be able to create and modify entries within a voice recognition phonebook, whereby a number within the voice recognition phonebook can be called by saying the name associated with the number. The user interface provides a combination of voice and LCD displayed user prompts and responses to voice input. The interface responds to user voice commands and performs the command functions based upon matches to previously user trained voice command vocabulary words stored in memory.
Abstract:
A system and method for allowing a wireless communication device for conveniently converting alphanumeric characters into numeric characters for dialing is disclosed. The device may further include a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) as part of the wireless communication device. The unit accepts input from memory that has been highlighted on the PDA display. Any alphanumeric characters saved in address book phone entries will be automatically converted to phone numeric equivalents when dialed. For example, a stored number of 1-800-2EUDORA is treated as 18002383672 when dialed. The unit accepts input from memory into a Alphanumeric to Numeric Converter where the letters an non integers are converted into numbers to be dialed. The converted number is then passed through an undefined character filter where undefined characters are eliminated. The output is then sent to a display where an optional confirmation step takes place before the wireless communication device dials the intended number.
Abstract:
A method and system (28c-28f) are provided to synchronize a digital communications device (27) with a mobile phone network system time. Previous reference times, associated with the device, are updated to the system time when the device is activated and the updated time is presented to a system user (28c). The updated time may also be used to automatically update the time associated with time-sensitive data files stored in the device's memory (28e). Finally, the user is permitted to set the system time to any desired time using a manual operation mode (28d).
