    Abstract: A valve unit (10) for an anti-lock braking system (ABS) comprises a valve body (11), a piston (18) movable in the valve body, and an elastic element (34) acting on the piston. The valve body has an outlet port (14), an inlet port (17), a primary chamber (15) communicating with the outlet port, an expansion chamber (16) with an outflow passage (51) that achieves fluid communication between the primary chamber and the expansion chamber, and a bypass passage (50) between the inlet port and the outlet port. The piston (18) is movable in the primary chamber (15) and has a longitudinal through cavity (31). The piston has a first transversal surface, facing away from the outlet port, and a second transversal surface opposite the first and facing away from the outlet port, where the first transversal surface has an area smaller than the area of the second transversal surface. The elastic element (34) exerts an elastic force to move the piston (18) away from the outlet port (14). The valve unit (10) is activatable by the pressure of the brake fluid in the primary chamber (15).

    Abstract: A valve unit (10) for an ABS system has a single hydraulic chamber (15) configured to receive brake fluid, with a delivery port (14) for supplying brake fluid to a brake caliper (G), and a passage (50) for letting brake fluid from a master cylinder (M) into the single hydraulic chamber (15). A single piston (18), longitudinally movable within the single hydraulic chamber (15), has first transverse surfaces facing the delivery port and defining as a whole a first transverse area, second transverse surfaces facing away from the delivery port (14) and defining as a whole a second transverse area greater than the first transverse area. A longitudinal cavity (31) extends in the single piston (18) establishing fluid communication between the first transverse surfaces and the second transverse surfaces, whereby a displacement of the piston towards the delivery port (14) occludes the passage (50) and increments the volume available for the brake fluid in the hydraulic chamber.

    Abstract: An anti-lock braking unit comprises a single actuating solenoid (31) acting on a piston (40) of an associated valve unit (30). The solenoid moves the piston within a primary chamber (38) which is in fluid communication with a brake calliper. The movement the piston closes a bypass passage (50), formed within the valve unit, that normally connects a master cylinder to the brake calliper. By closing the bypass passage (50), the buildup of pressure acting on the calliper is stopped. Simultaneously, the same actuating movement of the piston (40) opens an outflow passage within the valve unit, allowing the brake fluid to vent from the primary chamber (38) into an expansion chamber. The expansion chamber provides an increased volume for the brake fluid contained between the valve unit (30) and the brake calliper, thereby decreasing the pressure of the brake fluid acting on the calliper.
