Abstract: An electronic device includes a housing including a first plate facing a first direction, a second plate facing a second direction opposite to the first direction, and a side member disposed in at least part of a peripheral region between the first plate and the second plate, a touch screen display having at least a portion exposed through the first plate of the housing, a fingerprint sensor disposed in a lower portion of the touch screen display, and a cover case that is coupled or integrated with at least part of the housing and that opens or closes the first plate of the housing. An air gap is formed between a first region of the touch screen display that corresponds to the fingerprint sensor and a second region of the cover case that faces at least the first region, with the cover case closing the first plate of the housing.

Abstract: The electronic device includes a transparent member, a display positioned under a transparent member that includes a plurality of pixels, an image sensor positioned under some areas of the display, a memory, and a processor. The processor obtains a first image at least based on light output through at least some of the plurality of pixels and reflected by an external object coming into contact with the transparent member using the image sensor, performs authentication on the external object at least based on the at least one template using the first image, generates a second image of the external object at least based on the first image when quality of the first image corresponds to a given condition based on a result of the authentication, and performs authentication on the external object at least based on the at least one template using the second image.

The processor may be configured to: operate a first sub-region of the biometric sensing region according to a first display attribute and operate a second sub-region of the biometric sensing region according to a second display attribute; while the first sub-region is operated according to the first display attribute and the second sub-region is operated according to the second display attribute, obtain, through the biometric sensor, a signal corresponding to an external object, wherein the signal is generated at least partially based on light that is emitted from the first sub-region or the second sub-region and reflected by the external object; perform authentication on the external object if the signal satisfies a specified condition; and prevent authentication on the external object if the signal does not satisfy the specified condition.
