Abstract: In a portable electronic device components (2) consuming electrical power during operation may generate heat. A temperature sensor (1) for sensing an ambient temperature (T s ) of the portable electronic device may as a consequence not supply the correct temperature value. It is suggested to provide a compensator (4) for determining a compensated ambient temperature (T A ) dependent on at least the sensed ambient temperature (T s ) and information (P i ) related to the electrical power consumed by at least one of the components (2).

Abstract: In a portable electronic device components (2) consuming electrical power during operation may generate heat. Abstract: In a method for operating a portable electronic device an ambient temperature (T s ) of the portable electronic device (2) is sensed by means of a temperature sensor (1). It is further detected if a rechargeable energy storage (22) of the portable electronic device (2) is in a process of being recharged. If the energy storage (22) is detected to be in a process of being recharged a compensated ambient temperature (T A ) is determined dependent on at least the sensed ambient temperature (T s ) and dependent on information (P i ) related to a charging current for recharging the energy storage (22).
