    Abstract: The present invention discloses a combination of set retarders and regulators for the hydration reaction of cementitious binders comprising clinkers based on Ye'elimite. The set retarders are calcium complexing agents, preferably selected from the group consisting of sugar acids, sugars, sugar alcohols, hydroxycarboxylic acids, phosphates, phosphonates, borates and amines. The regulator is of the general formula (I) where M is H, NhU or chosen from a monovalent or divalent metal of the groups la lla, IlIa, lb, IIb, IVb, Vlb, Vllb or Vlllb of the periodic table of elements, and, where M is a divalent metal, a second equivalent of R-SO 3 is present, and where, preferably, M is chosen from the group consisting of H, NH 4 , Li, Na, K, MgX, CaX, or NiX with X = RSO 3 , and where R is chosen from H, NH 2 , OH or from a hydrocarbon chain with 1-18 C atoms which may be substituted by N and/or O and/or which may be linear or branched and/or which may contain one or more unsaturated bonds and/or cycloaliphatic and/or aromatic moieties. The combination of set retarders and regulators of the present invention is useful to control the hydration reaction at early age of said cementitious binders comprising clinkers based on Ye'elimite. More particularly, it is possible by a combination of set retarders and regulators of the present invention to prolong the open time and at the same time accelerate the setting of a cementitious mixture comprising cementitious binders comprising clinkers based on Ye'elimite. The present invention also discloses uses of a combination of set retarders and regulators of the present invention as well as methods for the control of the hydration reaction at early age of cementitious binders comprising clinkers based on Ye'elimite.

    Abstract: A method for characterizing sands with regard to adsorption of plasticizing additives comprising the steps of: a) Providing an aqueous mixture of the plasticizing additive with a defined concentration of the plasticizing additive; b) Determination of a characteristic of the aqueous mixture whereby the characteristic is related to the proportion of the plasticizing additive in the aqueous mixture; c) Contacting a sample of sand to be analyzed with the aqueous mixture or a sample thereof, so that the sand sample is completely immersed in the aqueous mixture or the sample thereof; d) Taking a sample of supernatant liquid from the mixture of step; e) Determination of the same characteristic as in step b) of the sample of supernatant liquid; f) Comparing the characteristic of the aqueous mixture or the sample thereof obtained in step b) with the characteristic of the sample of supernatant liquid of step e) in order to decide whether the characteristics differ from each other by more than a predefined threshold or not.
