Abstract: A device and method for use in imaging a scene. The device including: a sensor means (3) having an array of pixel sensors (40) each responsive to electromagnetic radiation from the scene to generate a pixel signal; directing means (2) for directing said electromagnetic radiation for forming an image of the scene upon pixel sensors of the sensor means; displacer means (9) arranged to displace the position of a part of the image formable upon the sensor means from a position between pixel sensors to other positions including positions coinciding with the location of different pixel sensors, wherein the sensor means is arranged to generate the pixel signals (7) when the part of the image is at each said position for use in generating an image of the scene.

Abstract: An imaging apparatus for imaging a scene comprises an array (10) of differently-sensitive detector elements (20, 22, 24, 26), each detector element having a respective one of a plurality of different sensitivities, means (2, 4, 6) for directing radiation from the scene to form an image at the array (10); and processing means (12) for reading and processing response signals from the detector elements, wherein the processing means (12) is configured to operate in a plurality of modes, comprising a first processing mode in which it processes response signals in dependence upon the sensitivity of the detector elements from which the response signals were obtained to obtain first, sensitivity-dependent image data, and a second processing mode in which it processes response signals to obtain second, sensitivity-independent image data.
