Abstract:
ABSTRACT The present disclosure relates to coatings and coating compositions that are substantially free of bisphenol A (BPA) and similar compounds, which help reduce or minimize flavor loss associated with foods or beverages stored in contact with the coating compositions. In one aspect, the composition can include the reaction products of an intimate mixture of cyclic ether resins and acrylate resins, which provides a unique cross-linked and interpenetrating network of polmers.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an apparatus (10) and process for injection molding polymer articles that reduces deposition of additives on the apparatus. Specifically, pressurizing of the mold cavity (16) with a pressurized gas reduces the deposition of low molecular weight additives on the apparatus. Embodiments of the invention also include an apparatus for injection molding polymer articles comprising at least one pressurized gas inlet (26) for introducing a pressurized gas into the mold cavity.
Abstract:
A container made by reheat stretch blow molding process comprises a poly(ethylene terephthalate) copolymer including levels of diethylene glycol lower than that generated as a byproduct in conventional resin manufacturing process and minor amounts of naphthalenedicarboxylic acid resulting in containers which exhibit enhanced mechanical properties. Methods for making the contains and hot filling the containers are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A method for decreasing acetaldehyde content of melt processed polyester comprising combining with polyester an organic additive compound that scavenges acetaldehyde from polyester. The organic additive compound comprises at least two component molecular fragments, each component molecular fragment comprising at least two hydrogen substituted heteroatoms bonded to carbons of the respective component molecular fragment. Each component molecular fragment is reactive with acetaldehyde in the polyester to form water and a resulting organic compound comprising an unbridged five or six member ring including the at least two heteroatoms. The reduced acetaldehyde content polyester is particularly useful for making containers such as for packaging beverages.
Abstract:
Coatings are provided to give polymeric structures a top coat that improves the gas barrier properties of the structure while enhancing the water resistance of the top coating and while improving the adhesion of the top coat to an underlying layer of the structure. These top coat compositions comprise an organic barrier coating material in combination with an epoxide additive which enhances the water resistance, adhesion, gas barrier, or a combination thereof, of the top coat barrier layer. Multilayer structures having this top coat are also provided, particularly in the form of containers for food and beverage packaging.

Abstract:
Steviol glycoside blends comprising rebaudioside A, rebaudioside M, rebaudioside D and rebaudioside B that have aqueous solubility at relevant beverage concentrate concentrations are provided herein. Blends comprising steviol glycoside blends of the present invention and compositions comprising glucosylated steviol glycosides are also provided. Beverage syrups and beverages made from these blends are also provided.
Abstract:
A single-use, oral dosage forms (e.g., fast-dissolving strips) is disclosed, as well as methods of using such oral dosage forms to sweeten edible compositions. Methods of manufacturing single-use, oral dosage forms are also provided.
Abstract:
This disclosure provides new methods to characterize and relate residual stress and orientation imparted to the injection molded polymeric preform with orientation and residual stress in the resulting blow molded bottle. The method developed allows one to define and map the coupled thermal stress histories of both processes to define applicable preferred mutual processing windows for both preform and bottle molding processes. Stretch blow-molding parameters are developed using the disclosed method.
Abstract:
This disclosure provides economical and effective methods and apparatus for repairing scratches and scuffs on refillable bottle surfaces that minimally contaminates the bottle during the refurbishing process. In one aspect, the method comprises the steps of: a) adding at least one fluid into the polymeric packaging material such as a bottle to form at least a partially filled packaging material; and b) applying at least one heat source to an exterior surface of the at least partially filled packaging material to form a repaired polymeric packaging material. Apparatus and recycling systems that incorporate this method are also disclosed.
