Abstract: A molding process is provided for molding a solid product from a moldable material in a mold. At least two spaced-apart reciprocating devices (50, 52) are provided which are in communication with the moldable material, and each includes a drivable member reciprocable within a chamber. The reciprocating devices (50, 52) exert a stress tensor prior to, and in the course of, solidifying. This stress tensor is created by reciprocating the drivable member with respect to another drivable member in accordance with a predetermined program (58), in a manner selected from: (a) at the same frequency, at a different amplitude and out of phase, (b) at the same frequency, at a different amplitude and in phase, (c) at a different frequency and at the same amplitude, and (d) at a different frequency and at a different amplitude. The moldable material is cooled to form a solid product during packing.

Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus for shaping deformable materials during molding processes. The apparatus includes a vibrating wall assembly which fits the contours of at least a portion of a mold's cavity. The vibrating wall assembly includes a pliable wall (30, 32, 34) positioned within the mold (21). The pliable wall (30, 32, 34) is positioned such that its outside wall surface (38, 42, 46) is adjacent to a portion of the mold's inside wall surface (36, 40, 44); and its inside wall surface (36, 40, 44) defines a portion of the geometric configuration of the material passing thereover. The pliable wall (30, 32, 34) is designed to deform from its original shape when a positive or negative pressure is exerted on its inside or outside wall surface. This positive and/or negative pressure is generated, at least in part, by the displacement of a displaceable fluid. This fluid is contained within a chamber (48, 50, 52) which is in communication with a portion of the pliable wall's outside surface (38, 42, 46).
