The present invention pertains to an apertured polymeric film web material provided with a multiplicity of substantially three dimensional surface structures and provided with a multiplicity of fluid transport apertures. In one embodiment, the fluid transport apertures are formed using a process that substantially preserves the integrity of the surface structures. Methods of producing webs are also disclosed. The present invention also includes multi-ply composite structures formed using apertured polymeric film web materials and a sub-ply. The present invention also pertains to absorbent articles which preferably include a topsheet in accordance with the present invention, a backsheet secured to the topsheet, and an absorbent core positioned between the topsheet and the backsheet.

A process for colouring and/or compounding thermoplastic and/or thermosetting polymers directly during the injection-moulding stage or the blow-moulding stage is described. The said process involves the following stages: a first colour-matching stage at which the intrinsic colour of the polymer to be coloured and/or compounded is measured and compared with a specimen of the colour to be obtained in order to identify the exact qualitative and quantitative composition of the colorants needed to obtain the desired colour; the colorants identified and/or the additives are weighed and then mixed; the mixture thus obtained is loaded into a suitable metering unit where it is precisely metered in a predetermined, measured amount and conveyed to the flow of thermoplastic and/or thermosetting granules to be coloured and/or compounded; the material thus mixed is then injection-moulded or blow-moulded.

The apparatus (100) includes a die housing (102) which defines a chamber (104) adapted to receive a pressurized liquid and a means for applying ultrasonic energy (116) to a portion of the pressurized liquid. The die housing (102) further includes an inlet (110) adapted to supply the chamber with the pressurized liquid, and an exit orifice (112) defined by the walls of a die tip (136). The exit orifice (112) is adapted to receive the pressurized liquid from the chamber (104) and pass the liquid out of the die housing (102). When the means for applying ultrasonic energy (116) is excited, it applies ultrasonic energy to the pressurized liquid without applying ultrasonic energy to the die tip (136). The method further includes the step of creating cross-linking between layers of the extruded product by directing the radiation at the extruded product. Still further, the method includes the steps of directing a first gas flow at a surface of the product and directing a second gas flow at the glass at an intensity, direction, and temperature that prevents the glass from becoming an infrared source.
