A pneumocardial function monitor (10) includes a carrier (12) configured to be mounted about at least a part of a trunk of a body of a subject. A sensing arrangement (16) is mounted on the carrier (12), the sensing arrangement (16) comprising at least one element for monitoring changes in volume of the part of the subject's body. A signal processing module (24) is in communication with the sensing arrangement (16) for processing signals output from the sensing arrangement (16), the signal processing module (24) having at least one output for outputting a signal related to respiratory function and/or cardiac function.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for facilitating treatment of nerve tissue. An apparatus body, in the form of a bio-compatible conduit, is placed about an nerve lesion. An antenna arrangement implanted in the patient is arranged to receive RF signals and induce a stimulating current in the bio-compatible conduit. The stimulating current electrically stimulates the nerve endings and promotes growth.

A blood volume monitor (10) includes a carrier (12) mountable about a part of a body of a subject. A measuring arrangement (13) is mounted on the carrier (12). The measuring arrangement (13) comprises at least one element (14, 18) configured to provide volume data relating to a volume of the part of the body of the subject underlying the carrier (12) and for measuring change in volume of the part of the body of the subject underlying the carrier (12) and for outputting response signals representative of the change in volume. A control unit (20) is in communication with the measuring arrangement (13) to process data output by the measuring arrangement (13) to determine, using the volume data, the volume of the part of the body of the subject underlying the carrier (12) and to determine blood volume in the part of the body of the subject, the control unit (20) using the response signals received from the measuring arrangement and the determined volume of the part of the body to determine the blood volume.
