Abstract: A solar water heating apparatus (1) comprises at least one enclosed container (2) configured to hold a volume of water; an open-topped housing (3) configured to receive the or each container (2) therein, and a top cover (4) configured to close the open top of the housing (3) and to allow the transmission of solar radiation therethrough; the container (2) comprising an outer surface having a portion configured to face upwards towards the top cover (4) when the water container (2) is located in the housing (3), the container (2) and housing (3) mutually configured so that the width of at least the upwardly-facing portion of the container (2) is greater than the height of the container (2) when the container (2) is located in the housing (3).
