Abstract: The invention relates to a bone implant comprising a body having a porous structure (3) and having a size and shape configured for fitment to a bone, preferably in a bone defect. The porous structure (3) is comprised of regularly arranged elementary cells (4) whose interior spaces form interconnected pores, the elementary cells (4) are formed by basic elements arranged in layers, wherein the basic elements are shaped like tetrapods (5, 5'), the tetrapods (5) in each layer being arranged in parallel orientation and being positioned in-layer rotated with respect to tetrapods (5') of an adjacent layer. The layers with rotated and non-rotated tetrapods are alternatingly arranged. Thereby a porous structure can be achieved which features improved mechanical characteristics, leading to improved biocompatibility. The invention further relates to endoprosthetic implants using said porous structure, and a method of such bone implants.

Abstract: The invention relates to an augment device, in particular a tibial augment for a knee joint endoprosthesis, comprising a hollow sleeve (10) surrounding a channel (11) extending through the hollow sleeve (10) from a top (12) to a bottom (14) of the hollow sleeve (10), the hollow sleeve (10) comprising a wall (17) having an inner face (14) and an outer face (15). According to the invention the hollow sleeve (10) comprises at least one bending joint (3´), the bending joint (3, 3´) being configured for compressing the channel (10). Thereby the hollow sleeve (10) may be compressed under an external force, leading to a decreased circumference and width of the hollow sleeve (10). This leads to a gap between the perimeter of the augment device (1) and surrounding bone material, breaking any connections. By virtue of this, a much facilitated removal of the augment device (1) can be achieved. Further, the invention provides an extraction tool (5) having grippers (6) for engaging and compressing the augment device (1), and further instruments, particularly a jig (8), for achieving an effective removal. The invention further relates to a corresponding method of handling the augment device (1).

Abstract: Implantable drug-eluting device (1) comprising a microporous structure (2) having regularly arranged pores (4, 5) in at least two different uniform sizes, and manufacturing method. The pores are configured for receiving a drug (9) and are being connected by interconnections (6, 7). Interconnections (6) originating from pores (4) of a first size have a first elution area and interconnections (7) originating from pores (5) of a second size have a second elution area. The interconnections convey the drug (9) to a surface of the device for elution to surrounding tissue. The ratio between the first and the second elution areas is predefined and selectable. The differently sized elution areas provide for different outflow rates. This allows for simple but reliable dispensing of drugs at positively controlled and well determined rates. Particularly, this enables a single implantable device to dispense drugs over preselectable durations of time, like short-term or long-term.

Abstract: The invention relates to an augment device for a joint endoprosthesis, in particular a tibial augment for a knee joint endoprosthesis, comprising a sleeve (10) surrounding a channel (11) extending through the sleeve (10). The sleeve (10) is formed of porous material (2) for ingrowth of bony material, the sleeve (10) comprising an inner face (14) and an outer face (15). The sleeve (10) further comprises a wall (3) surrounding the channel (11), the wall (3) being made of solid material and forming a sandwich structure with the porous material (2), wherein the wall (3) forms a bulkhead between the inner face (14) and the outer face (15). Thereby, the bulkhead wall (3) will stop inflow of any cement across the sleeve (10) from its inner (14) to its outer face (15). The porous material (3) on the outer face (15) will be kept free from cement and its capability to promote bone ingrowth is reliably preserved. The augment devices are preferably provided as a set having different sizes and straight or stepped bottoms for improved versatility and maximum preservation of natural bone matter.
