    Abstract: A downhole tool and method, of which the downhole tool includes a housing defining a charge chamber and a hydraulic chamber, the hydraulic chamber containing a hydraulic fluid, and a piston disposed in the hydraulic chamber. The piston prevents the hydraulic fluid from communicating with the charge chamber, and is in communication with the hydraulic fluid and the charge chamber. The tool also includes one or more charges disposed in the charge chamber. The one or more charges are configured to ignite and thereby expand a gas in the charge chamber. The tool further includes a fluid-metering device coupled to the housing. The fluid-metering device is configured to control a rate at which the hydraulic fluid is pressed out of the hydraulic chamber.

    Abstract: A downhole valve includes a housing, and a sleeve positioned within the housing. The sleeve has a first axial end, a second axial end, and a seat positioned between the first and second ends. The sleeve defines an opening facing in a radial direction. The sleeve prevents fluid flow in an opposite radial direction, away from the opening. The valve also includes a retaining element coupled to or integral with the sleeve, and a first obstructing member positioned in the sleeve and movable between the seat and the retaining element. In a first position, the first obstructing member engages the seat and prevents fluid flow through the housing. In a second position, the first obstructing member is separated apart from the seat such that at least a portion of the opening is axially between the first obstructing member and the first obstructing member.

    Abstract: A downhole tool includes a mandrel configured to be coupled to a liner, the mandrel defining a first port and a second port, the first and second ports being axially offset from one another and extending radially through a wall of the mandrel, a slips assembly coupled to the mandrel, an outer cylinder received around the mandrel and configured to transmit an axially- directed force onto the slips assembly, and a retaining assembly positioned radially between the mandrel and the outer cylinder. The retaining assembly has a first configuration that prevents the outer cylinder from moving relative to the mandrel, and a second configuration that permits the outer cylinder to move axially along the mandrel and set the slips assembly. The retaining assembly is configured to actuate from the first configuration to the second configuration in response to a pressure in the first port exceeding a pressure in the second port.

    Abstract: A tubing hanger running tool assembly includes a ring extending around a tubing hanger in a wellhead, and having a contracted configuration and an expanded configuration. The ring in the expanded configuration is received into a groove in the wellhead. The assembly includes a sleeve to actuate the ring between the contracted and expanded configurations. The sleeve includes a tubing hanger running tool received through the sleeve and having a lower end that is configured to be received into a first bore of the tubing hanger and to form a connection therewith. The tubing hanger running tool is configured to transmit an axial force to the sleeve in response to the tubing hanger running tool being received into the tubing hanger. The axial force moves the sleeve axially with respect to the ring, which actuates the ring between the contracted and expanded configurations.

    Abstract: A packoff for a wellhead includes a body configured to be positioned in an annulus between the wellhead and an inner tubular above a casing hanger supported in the wellhead, the body including a bore and a lower end, the bore and the lower end being configured to be positioned at least partially around the inner tubular. The lower end is configured to be spaced apart from the casing hanger. The packoff also includes a first load shoulder member configured to be removably connected to the lower end of the body and to engage a surface of the casing hanger so as to form a seal therewith.
