Also provided are tobacco plants with altered total alkaloid and nicotine levels and commercially acceptable leaf grade, their development via breeding or transgenic approaches, and production of tobacco products from these tobacco plants. Further provided are compositions and methods for producing tobacco plants having novel mutations or alleles to reduce nicotine levels. Further provided are sequence polymorphisms and molecular markers for breeding tobacco with reduced nicotine or alkaloids while maintaining tobacco leaf grade and tobacco product quality.

A presente invenção revela o desenvolvimento de linhagens de arroz ( Oryza sativa L.) com resistência a herbicidas inibidores da enzima acetyl coenzima A carboxilase (ACCase) através da aplicação de raios gama para a produção da espécie Oryza sativa L. modificada com a sequência descrita em SEQ ID NO: 1 e as linhagens do arroz compreendem a mutação de substituição da base nitrogenada Guanina por Timina na posição correspondente ao códon que dá origem ao aminoácido 2027 no sítio carboxil-transferase da enzima da ACCase e as plantas de arroz apresentam uma variação no gene que codifica para a enzima Acetil-coenzima A carboxilase, promovendo resistência a herbicidas inibidores da ACCase, em comparação com variedade selvagem da planta.

The methods involve the use of two or more double-strand-break- inducing agents, each of which can cause a double-strand break in a target sequence in the genomic region of interest which results in an alteration in the target sequence. Also disclosed are complex transgenic trait loci in plants. A complex transgenic trait locus comprises at least two altered target sequences that are genetically linked to a polynucleotide of interest.
