A tablet press (100,1800) comprises a frame (110,1810) including a top plate (112,1812) with four openings and a bottom plate (113,1813), a moveable punch (130,1830) including a main plate (134,1834) with a plurality of pins (132,1832), a fixed die (140,1840) including a plurality of openings (141,1841), a moveable door (150,1850) being positioned outside of the frame (110,1810) and also beneath the fixed die (140,1840), and a moving hopper (160,1860) connected to a hopper piston (161,1861). The tablet press (100,1800) is used to compress coir into a pill or tablet, and compresses the coir to the required shape and size by hydraulic pressure.

A method of making absorbent granules can include mixing activated carbon with a liquid and a binder to form a slurry; applying the slurry to particles of absorbent core material to at least partially coat the particles of the core material with a first distinct layer containing the activated carbon; and applying a clumping agent to the first distinct layer to at least partially coat the first distinct layer with a second distinct layer containing the clumping agent. The absorbent granules can be used as a deodorizer and/or a pet litter, and each of the absorbent granules can include an absorbent core, a first distinct layer containing activated carbon, and a second distinct layer containing a clumping agent such that the first distinct layer is between an outer surface of the absorbent core and an inner surface of the second distinct layer.

A composition comprising diatomaceous earth which may have a clump strength greater than 75% and in which the dry density may be less than 880 kg/m 3 (55lb/ft 3 ). The compositions exhibit synergistic absorbance, light density, high clump strength, low dustiness, and axe suitable for industrial and household absorption and solidification, animal litter, and soil amendment.

Extruded granular sorbent formed of sorbent granules each being or including an extruded pellet containing water soluble binder sufficient to self-clump when wetted producing clumps of granules each having a clump retention rate of at least 90% and which shrink after clump formation during drying producing a nonstick clump that condenses pulling away from any contacting solid surface minimizing adhesion therebetween. Such clumps preferably also have a crush strength of at least 15 PSI when dry. Pellets preferably contain cold water-soluble amylopectin binder that not only solubilizes when wetted to facilitate clumping but which also opens the interior of the pellet improving absorption capacity. Sorbent well suited for use as litter is formed of granules or pellets having sizes falling within a plurality of different size ranges with the smaller sized fines causing the clumps to form on top of the litter extending generally horizontally along the litter.

An anti-odor material for animal litters derived from the use of an odor-retardant agent including phosphorotriamides in powder form, and related process of manufacture. The anti-odor material may include a particulate support; and a crystallized layer of the odor- retardant agent coating a surface of the particulate support. The process for producing the anti-odor material may include heating the odor-retardant agent in a powder form to at least an odor-retardant agent melting point T m to melt the powder form and produce a melted odor-retardant agent; mixing the melted odor-retardant agent with the particulate support for association thereof to produce the anti-odor material; and cooling the anti- odor material to a temperature below the odor-retardant agent melting point T m to transform the melted odor-retardant agent into a crystallized odor-retardant agent. The anti-odor material may be mixed with an absorptive substrate to produce the animal litter.
