The invention relates to a method and apparatus for controlling pests with a liquid jet. In the method is used a jet which reflects and/or radiates radiation that lures pests in its surroundings. The apparatus for controlling pests constitutes a part of the mist or jet apparatus intended for controlling the climate in a greenhouse. The apparatus is arranged to provide a liquid jet (3) which reflects and/or radiates light.
Abstract:
An insect trap for attracting, entrapping and killing flying insects comprises a light source emitting a light suitable to attract insects, a translucent wall and a flowing trapping fluid. A distributor directs a fluid film of trapping fluid onto an outer surface of the translucent wall. The fluid film flows down the translucent wall and intercepts insects attracted by the emitted light. The insects come into direct contact with the fluid film and are trapped by the trapping fluid. Trapped insects are filtered from the trapping fluid by a removable filter. The trapping fluid is collected in a reservoir and recirculated to the distributor by a pump.

An animal trap (40) especially suited for trapping rodents such as rats and other small animals, in one embodiment comprising a generally cylindrical or rectangular container (42) having a slotted fixed top surface with a swinging door (46) adapted for limited rotation in one direction about a pair of centrally positioned fulcrum points (48) in response to the animal's weight on the door (46). The door (46) is normally positioned horizontally fully covering the interior of the container. Upon activation of the trap (40) in response to the animal's weight on the trigger side (50) of the door (46), the door rotates to a substantially diagonal position causing the animal to fall or otherwise travel into the container and permitting the door to reset itself for trapping another animal. The trap is preferably configured to cause the animal to have all of its weight on the non-slotted portion of the top (44) before it goes after the bait on the trigger side (50) of the door (46). A suitable ramp (55) may be provided leading up to the non-slotted portion of the top (44) to promote such behavior.

The present invention provides a device for eliminating mosquitoes and other harmful flying insects by eradicating the eggs and larvae laid or deposited in the device. The device is an electrically operated, self-contained, compact device that eliminates harmful flying insects and/or mosquitoes by attracting the insects to lay their eggs in a body of liquid within the device. This is accomplished with the use of attractants in the device, in the liquid, on the device, or around the device. The body of liquid acts as a breeding ground which is then periodically drained by a valve onto a screen or mesh of sufficient size to filter and separate eggs and larvae from the liquid. The eggs and larvae are then crushed, smashed, or otherwise destroyed by mechanical means. The liquid flows through a filter media, making it ready to be recycled from a reserve tank for reuse in refilling the body of liquid in the device.

A device for inhibiting the proliferation of insects, in particular mosquitoes, includes a container (1) for containing a liquid, and a filtering surface (40) which can be placed in two alternative operating positions with respect to the surface of the liquid (10; 20) : an immersed position, in which at least one portion (40a; 40b) of the filtering surface is immersed so as to allow insects to lay their eggs on the surface (10; 20) of the liquid, and a raised position, in which at least the one portion of filtering surface (40a; 40b) is raised above the surface (10; 20) of the liquid, thereby removing any larvae that were in the liquid between the surface (10; 20) thereof and the filtering surface (40a; 40b) when this was in the first position.

Modular system and its components to build and operate an apparatus to collect and destroy mosquito eggs, larvae and pupae without an external energy source. The apparatus can be integrated into a building structure. The integration is done with a modular concept. The apparatus can be operated mechanically only with a water supply and comprises containers (1000), (1015), (1020) in (1000), which are connected by valves (1201 ), (1010), (1018) and the pipe (1012) and regulated by floaters (1202), (1016), (1017). Container (1020) and (1040) are connected to the ovitrap (1060). The ovitrap (1060) is emptied automatically when the floater (1022) opens the valve (1042).
