The present invention is directed to a functional food ingredient, comprising; a soy protein isolate, comprising; de-oiling hexane treated soybean flakes; heat treating the de-oiled hexane treated soybean flakes to a hexane content of below 200 parts per million at a temperature of from about 200°F to about 210°F, wherein the soybean flakes are from high beta conglycinin soybeans; mixing the heat treated soybean flakes with water to form a slurry; removing fiber from the slurry to produce a liquor; adding an acid to the liquor to produce a precipitate of curds and a liquid of whey; separating the curds and the whey; washing the curds with water; adjusting the pH of the washed curds to about 7 and drying the pH adjusted material to produce a soy protein isolate having a beta conglycinin content of from about 35% to about 85% and a glycinin content of from about 5% to about 40%.

A process for the producing edible protein-containing meal for human and animal consumption and high quality food grade oils from oil seed using iodotrifluoromathane as the solvent is shown. The meal has a significantly improved level of dietary available (absorbable) protein. The process involves the preparation of protein isolates by a procedure which is conducted at room temperature, thus decreases protein degradation and denaturing which is caused by elevated temperatures. The process also provides for extraction of substantially all oils and fats, which interfere with the formation of the protein micelle, from the protein meal providing a cleaner, purer product with high levels of absorbable protein. Such protein isolates can then be used as such or added to formulated foods in order to increase the total protein content of that food. The protein produced and the oils recovered have compositions which are also unique and unobtainable by prior processing methods.

The corn grain process generally includes the steps of cracking corn grain having a total oil content of from about 3 % by weight to about 30 % by weight and extracting a corn oil from the cracked corn grain. The corn oil is useful for making nutritionally enhanced edible oil or cooking oil, lubricants, biodiesel, fuel, cosmetics and oil-based or oil-containing chemical products. The extracted corn meal is useful for making enhanced animal feed rations, snack food, blended food products, cosmetics, and fermentation broth additive.

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung einer proteinhaltigen Lebensmittelzutat, bei dem Leinschrot mit einem geringen Restölgehalt erzeugt oder bereitgestellt wird, aus dem Teile von nativem Leinprotein und löslichen Ballaststoffen durch wässrige Extraktion in einer wässrigen Phase gelöst oder zumindest dispergiert werden. Der dabei erhaltene wässrige Totalextrakt wird von unlöslichen Leinschrotfraktionen befreit. Anschließend wird ein Lein-Protein-Ballaststoff-Gemisch aus der wässrigen Phase abgetrennt, um damit die Lebensmittelzutat zu erhalten. Die auf diese Weise erhaltene Lebensmittelzutat ist geschmacklich neutral, technologisch funktionell und lagerstabil und zeichnet sich durch gute Proteinloslichkeit und ausgezeichnete Grenzflächeneigenschaften aus.

A commercial-scale method for processing corn grain includes the steps of flaking corn grain having a total oil content of at least about 8 % and extracting a corn oil from the flaked corn grain. Such a method can be effectuated by processing the high oil corn grain using equipment typically used to process soybeans and other similar oilseed types. In this way, processing plants that flake oilseeds can be used to extract corn oil from corn.
