Abstract:
An article for the identification of the premature rupture of a membrane during pregnancy is disclosed. In its preferred embodiment, the article comprises a pad (10) having an upper outer layer (26), a lower outer layer (28), and an intermediate pH-responsive component (34). A double-sided adhesive strip (36) is attached to the lower outer layer. The upper outer layer (26) is composed of a liquid permeable material. Intermediate of the upper out layer (26) and the inner outer layer (28) is a pH-sensitive component (34). This intermediate layer (34) is a pH-sensitive material and may be one of a variety of such materials, although a preferred material is nitrazine paper. In the presence of an alkaline fluid, such as amniotic fluid, the pH-sensitive material (34) responds by turning to a purple-blue color. The change in color acts as a visual indicator to the wearer of the possible presence of amniotic fluid outside of the amniotic sac.
Abstract:
Apparatus for quick screening for vaginal moisture pH level as related to a preselected pH level, comprising a manipulable element including a probe insertible into the vagina, at least one pH indicator on the element, the indicator characterized as producing a color which corresponds to pH level of vaginal moisture contacting the indicator, and a local comparison zone on the element having a color corresponding to a predetermined pH level, and positioned and shaped for quick color comparison with the color of the indicator after indicator contact with vaginal moisture. A test site for vaginosis may also be located on the probe, in non-interfering relation with said indicator and/or said zone.
Abstract:
Abstract:
This invention is a method for detecting pH of vaginal or urethral moisture, which steps include providing an elongated first carrier (100); providing a pH detector (111) on the carrier (100) at an end portion thereof, manipulating the carrier (100) to effect exposure of the detector (111) to vaginal or urethral moisture, thereby to cause the detector (111) to exhibit a color change; and providing a pH correlating color comparison measurement means (112) to allow visual comparison with the detector (111).
Abstract:
The invention provides a system for detection of at least one analyte present in a fluid, the system comprising a detector comprising an assay configured to detect presence of the analyte in the fluid, the detector comprising a specimen sampling region for the fluid and a protective seal partially covering the detector, wherein only the specimen sampling region is uncovered by the fluid-protective seal, and wherein the fluid-protective seal provides resistance to acid. The system can be fully submerged in an acidic solution and still retain is functionality.
Abstract:
Meconium stained amniotic fluid can indicate intrauterine fetal distress. The invention provides a method and a kit for detecting meconium in released amniotic fluid in pregnant women, including a personal pad having distinct patches for collecting body fluids and for performing color reactions. This invention is designed to be employed mainly by a lay person at home, but it also may provide possible etiologies for fetal distress.

Abstract:
A method of treating vaginal tissue atrophy in a female subject, the method including the steps of engaging an energy delivery element with tissue in or around the subject's vagina; applying energy to the tissue from the energy delivery element; and increasing blood flow to internal vaginal tissue to an increased level above a baseline level of blood flow to the internal vaginal tissue, the increased level of blood flow to the internal vaginal tissue persisting after the applying step ceases. The invention also provides devices for performing this therapy.
Abstract:
Systems, devices, methods, and compositions are described for providing an actively-controllable disinfecting implantable device configured to, for example, treat or prevent an infection in a biological subject.
