Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to an absorbent article comprising a liquid permeable bodyside liner; an outer cover; and an absorbent body positioned between the bodyside liner and the outer cover for detecting the presence of bilirubin in urine and stabilised enzymes for use in the same. Bilirubin oxidase may be stabilised by covalently binding to one or more polymers such as polyacrylic acid. Such absorbent articles incorporating said enzymes may be used to detect jaundice in a subject.
Abstract:
The document proposes a diagnostic chewing gum for identifying the presence of pathogens detectable via the mouth, in particular residing in nasal, oropharyngeal, laryngeal, oesophageal, ocular and/or pulmonal tissue of a user, comprising a base material or particles (3) embedded and/or attached to said base material; an element (1, 5-7), like e.g. a releasable flavor molecule, attached to said base material and/or said particles, for the generation of a change in the chewing gum directly detectable by the user; wherein said pathogen is selected from the group consisting of virus, bacterium, protozoa, prion, fungus or a combination thereof; and wherein the element (1, 5-7) generates the change upon direct or indirect contact with a marker (4) which is released by said pathogens, or, in case of a virus or prion, by the cellular structure hosting it.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides novel, non-invasive methods and kits utilizing a porous hydroxylated polyester membrane in the assessment of symptoms and biomarkers for the diagnosis and monitoring of a subject and the assessment of novel anti-inflammatory therapies in a subject suffering from an allergic condition.

Abstract:
A microbe contamination detection system is described. The microbe contamination detection system alerts a user or other individual in the event of microbial contamination of the system. The signal graphic is revealed when an obscuring graphic reacts with the microbial contamination to change color and/or become at least substantially transparent. The microbe contamination detection system may be used as a stand-alone device or may be incorporated as part of various articles or products, for instance, health care or food service preparation protective garments. Methods for using the microbe contamination detection system are also described.
Abstract:
A system and method for determining the concentration of an analyte in a fluid sample includes a test strip having a first and second portion separated by a bend line formed in the base. The bend line traverses the longitudinal axis of the base and the base is adapted to bend about the bend line. The test strip further includes a test element disposed on one of the portions. The test strip includes a reagent adapted to react with the analyte in the fluid sample.
Abstract:
Personal diagnostic devices including diagnostic patches (bio-patches) and interactive medical bracelets (bio-bracelets) are provided with a skin/patch interface, at least one analysis layer, a signal processing layer, and a user output interface. Embodiments of the interactive diagnostic devices may include micro-fluidic circuits with reaction chambers, analysis chambers, mixing chambers, and various pre-disposed chemistries or reagents for performing a wide verity of tests by trans-dermal transport of blood or perspiration. Sample collection chambers for the fluidic circuit may include minimally invasive tubules that penetrate the skin surface to acquire blood samples from capillaries near the epidermis. Alternate implementations of the personal diagnostic device may be equipped with logic processing, input/output devices, acoustic microphones, cryogenic circuits, embedded processors, electrical control circuitry, and battery current sources or photovoltaic sources of electrical power.
Abstract:
An analysis chip comprises of a top element, a base element, a reversible or irreversible isolation reaction structure, and one or more broadband cavity reactors made of any other structures. The reactor includes the broadband cavity whose width is more than 600µm, and a liquid inlet, a liquid outlet, and the said reaction isolation structure. The surface static water contact angle of the top and/or base element material layer is between 40- 80 degrees. An apparatus comprising a blank element used as the top and/or base element or one of them of the analysis chip is also provided. Futhermore, the chip test kit and the measurement method thereof are also provided.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a disposable diaper that has one or more chemical reagents provided in the absorbent region of the diaper, which comes into contact with urine when a patient wearing the diaper urinates. These chemical reagents change color when they contact urine containing abnormal levels of substances, such as leukocytes, blood, glucose, nitrites, protein, ketones, bilirubin, or urobilinogen; which substances may indicate the presence of a medical abnormality. Such a color change provides a visible indication of an abnormality in the urine and thus a possible incipient medical condition, such as a urinary tract infection, diabetes mellitus, hematuria, or the like. Such a color change is easily assessed by personnel having limited medical training, allowing such personnel to screen patients for these medical conditions and refer them to the appropriate medical personnel.
Abstract:
A disposable lancet combined with a reagent carrying strip which carries a reagent that indicates the concentration of a blood component in a blood sample placed in contact with the strip. The lancet has one end, which is sharpened for piercing the skin of a user and has the reagent carrying strip connected to the lancet e.g. by moulding. The strip is sheet-like and has a first side and a second side, which sides are both accessible for the user, such that the reagent carrying strip can be inserted into a blood glucose meter without having to disconnect the strip from the lancet. It is however possible to disconnect the strip from the lancet if so wanted.
