Abstract:
Improved systems and methods for performing external counterpulsation (ECP) treatment are described. The system can be more compact and portable than conventional devices and, in some cases, can be incorporated into a pair of pants or a jumpsuit, such that the user can remain ambulatory during treatment. In various instances, the ECP techniques can include applying complex pulse sequences and treating conditions including cognitive disorders, diabetes, and renal disease, among others. The various techniques can also be used in emergency cardiac situations. The techniques can also be used to provide users with the benefits of exercise, without needing to experience the strain and difficulty associated with conventional cardiovascular exercise routines.
Abstract:
The pneumatic Achilles sleeve assembly comprises a sleeve and at least one strap for fastening the sleeve around the ankle. The sleeve assembly positions an arch cell which contains a dynamic volume of air within the sleeve under a human foot. The arch cell is fabricated from a flexible material and is in communication with a conduit member. Upon application of external pressure to the arch cell, air is expelled from said air cell through said conduit member. The sleeve assembly also positions a tendon cell which contains a dynamic volume of air within the sleeve against the Achilles tendon. The tendon cell is in communication with the arch cell via the conduit member. The tendon cell is also fabricated from a flexible material. Upon the expelling of air from said arch cell, the air enters through the conduit member into the tendon cell which exerts a greater pressure against the Achilles tendon.
Abstract:
A footwear provided with a device for pressure massage to the lower limbs has a sole (1) and an upper (2), the sole (1) being provided with a forefoot chamber (3) and a heel chamber (4), each of said chambers communicating with respective fluid inflatable bladders (6, 10) through its flexible ducts (5, 9) in a manner adjustable from outside. The inflatable bladders (6, 10) are removably positioned within of the upper (2) and are flanked internally to respective isolated bladders (8, 11) being filled with gel and adapted to be in contact with parts of the body of the wearer of said footwear. Provided between the forefoot chamber (3) and the heel chamber (4) is a central cavity (13) housing a rigid insert (14) adapted to act as a lever fulcrum for the sole (1).
Abstract:
Abstract:
A brace has a number of flexible compression bags (108, 115) filled with liquid disposed around the injured body part. The liquid is pressurized by a pump (114), which may be driven by muscle contracting or weight-bearing activities. The pump may provide a dynamic, oscillatory pressure, or a constant pressure, which pressure may be equal to the normal resting liquid pressure in the injured limb. The bags are segmented with valves (101) allowing the liquid to flow in a controlled manner through the bags. The bags may be containing bags, or may be selectively placed to create pressures to resist specific injury effects and potential deformations when healing.
Abstract:
A leg support that attaches to a user's leg and extends below the user's foot, where stepping on the portion below the user's foot causes the portion around the user's upper leg to tighten. This allows the leg support and the user's leg to bear the user's weight with the user's foot remaining untouched. When the user takes his or her weight off of the leg support, the portion around the user's upper leg loosens for the user's comfort. The leg support insures that there is zero pressure on the bottom of the user's foot and all of the user's weight and vertical shear pressure is converted into horizontal compression pressure around the user's leg.
Abstract:
A leg movement stimulator device for use while sitting. Other embodiments of leg movement stimulator device include leg gliding mechanism (12) to allow simple exercise for user while simultaneously performing other sedentary activities, and extension function (13) for width adjustment, and a diversified movement mechanism (22), (22a) for joints and small muscles stimulation, and data generating and communicating mechanism (30), (30a), (31), (33) with user's smart electronic devices is also available for user's convenience in tracking and monitoring the movement activities. Other embodiments include chair fixing mechanism (14), (14a) to hold the device from moving, and stepper mechanism (11a), (11b), (22a'), (22b) and varied track direction(12c) for diverse exercise of the user.
Abstract:
A medical shoe for activating blood circulation is disclosed. It is made of an activation section (1; 2; 3), a hydraulic section (4; 5; 6, 7; 8, 9) for circulating a compression fluid and an anatomic section (10), containing the lower ends of the user. Advantageously, the activation section is able to reverse its motion and to work forward-backward alternately. Said anatomic section includes a balloon (10) having the shape of a shoe with a recess (11) which can be inflated with the fluid coming from the hydraulic section.
Abstract:
A shoe with a foot-massaging effect comprises a sole (2), optionally with a heel (14), and a top material (3). A cushion (5, 11, 23, 67, 68) containing a massage element and/or active medical agents is provided in the interior (4) of the shoe, above the sole (2). Said cushion has a flexible base panel (6) on the bottom, corresponding to the shape of the sole (2), and an elastic protective nonwoven fabric (9) on the top, the latter being permanently connected to said base panel. A toe cap (27) containing active medical agents can also be provided in the tip of the shoe (26). These measures result in a fairly significant foot-massaging effect and at the same time, enable the shoe to be used without creating an odour.
Abstract:
This invention is a portable apparatus (50) for applying cyclic pressure to veins within a person's leg by applying cyclic pressure to an outer surface of the leg. The apparatus comprises a first air chamber (40) having a flexible wall portion adapted to be situated adjacent an outer surface of the leg, and a second air chamber (51) adapted to be positioned beneath the person's heel. This second chamber (51) is compressed to force air out of it when the person's heel bears downward thereon, and returnable to its uncompressed state when the downward heel force is removed therefrom. Conduit means (57) for permitting airflow between the first, and second air chambers (51), whereby air flows from the second chamber (51) into the first chamber. Pressure is cyclically increased in the first chamber urging the wall portion against the leg when the person's heel presses downward on the second chamber (51) where air flows from the first to second chamber (51), and pressure on the leg is reduced when the person's heel stops pressing on the second chamber (51).
