    Abstract: The invention relates to a face coverage of a tanning device for cosmetic tanning and the like operated using low-pressure mercury vapour lamps. In order to obtain a good useful radiation output in relation to the energy consumed, in which the skin aging as a result of the radiation is minimised, according to the invention UVC lamps are fitted in a housing which is lightproof except on one side and supply their light through a UVC-opaque absorption layer which acts as a sufficiently UVB and UVA-transparent window, in such a way that the UVB and UVA lines can be effective and used. It is possible here in particular to insert a PMMA plate having an absorbing layer of polysiloxane with UV radiation pigments.

    Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a phototherapeutic apparatus for focused UVB radiation and vitamin D synthesis and associated systems methods. In one embodiment a phototherapeutic apparatus can include a housing at least partially defining an irradiation zone, and an ultraviolet (UV) radiation source carried by the housing. The irradiation zone can be configured to accommodate at least a portion of a human patient. The phototherapeutic apparatus can further include a filter between the UV radiation source and the irradiation zone. The filter can be configured to at least substantially remove UV radiation outside of a predetermined spectrum centered at about 297 nm and having a bandwidth of at most 10 nm.

    Abstract: The low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp has a lamp envelope (10) enclosing, in a gastight manner, a discharge space provided with a filling of mercury and a rare gas. The lamp envelope comprises discharge means for maintaining a discharge in the discharge space. The lamp envelope transmits UV-light and is made of a black glass component. The composition of the black glass component is free of PbO and comprises, expressed as a percentage by weight, the following constituents: 65-70 % by weight of SiO 2 , 1.4-2.2 % by weight of Li 2 O, 1.5-2.5 % by weight of Na 2 O, 11-13 % by weight of K 2 O, 1.8-2.6 % by weight of MgO, 2.5-5 % by weight of CaO, 2-3.5 % by weight of SrO, 8-9.5 % by weight of BaO, 0.2-0.4 % by weight of CoO, and 1.7-3.25 % by weight of NiO. The low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp is preferably used in an apparatus for treatment with radiation for personal care.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a skin tanning chamber, the improvement comprising at least one light emitting diode emitting a UVA light, such as a UVA LED that emits essentially only UVA. Additionally, multiple LEDs of varying types with various characteristic wavelengths are controlled independently to produce an arbitrary light pattern in an arbitrary sequence over time. The chamber can be rigid or flexible. It can be a bed, booth or incorporated into a flexible form, such as a garment or cloth. In one embodiment, the chamber further comprises at least one LED emitting a UVC light, whereby the UVC light sanitizes the chamber surface. Preferably the LED emitting the UVA light is under independent control from the LED emitting UVC light.
