    Abstract: A mobile platform such as, but not limited to, a skateboard or roller skate type of structure capable of movably transporting an individual over a supporting surface. A wheel assembly connected to the platform includes at least one but more practically a plurality of wheels each having a spherical configuration extending outwardly from opposite surfaces of the platform. A mounting assembly and each of a plurality of different embodiments of a bearing assembly are structured to facilitate a substantially universal, rotational movement of said wheel (s) relative to said platform. The different embodiments of the bearing assembly facilitate either a free or unrestricted universal rotational movement of the one wheel relative to the platform or alternatively a universal, rotational movement thereof concurrently about more defined rotational axes.

    Abstract: A personal transportation device includes front and rear sections having wheels mounted adjacent either end. The front section is hingedly attached to the rear section. A foot platform with binding is pivotally mounted to the front section. An overrunning clutch is attached to at least one wheel. A braking element is attached to the foot platform which is urged toward the upper surface of the front section by an elastic member. The braking element projects through a slot in the rear section and contacts a ground surface when the foot platform is tipped upwardly. When a leg of the user is drawn upwardly, the front section will move toward the rear section pivoting at the hinge portions. At least one of the front wheel and the rear wheel will roll toward the other. When the leg is pushed downwardly the overrunning clutch will lock and the device will move forwardly.

    Abstract: A personal transportation device includes front and rear sections having wheels mounted adjacent either end. The front section is hingedly attached to the rear section.     Abstract: A first embodiment of a flexing base skate (10) includes an upper shoe portion (12) mounted on a base (14). The base includes a forefoot region (20) secured to a forward frame segment (26) carrying forward wheels (18a, 18b). A heel region (24) of the base is secured to a rearward frame segment (28) that carries rearward wheels (18c, 18d). The base defines and flexes at a reduced thickness metatarsal head portion (22), with the skater's heel and the rearward frame segment elevating freely relative to the forward frame segment. A spring (72) incorporated into the base biases the skate to the unflexed configuration. The forward frame section overlaps the rearward frame section for lateral stability. An alternate embodiment provides a rigid full length frame (112) and a flexible base (104) mounted only at the forefoot region (106) to the frame. The base (104) flexes at a metatarsal head portion (108), and is constructed to form an integral spring biasing the base against the frame. The base includes a guide (118) for lateral alignment of the heel region (110) with the frame.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a device for roller skates (3) which enables side movement during braking, that is to say that it is possible to brake by sliding the roller skates. Quick braking is a difficult problem to master for roller skaters in tight situations. Primarly depending upon that it is not possible to slide the roller skates to stop with a brake slide, which is the normal way to stop when skating on ice. The invention solves this problem by having spherical pairs of wheels (5 , 6 ) mounted on a longitudinal shaft (12), which may rotate sideways during braking. The pairs of wheels (5 , 6 ) are displaced mutually so that all the time at least two wheels contact the ground (7).
