Abstract:
The disclosure relates to methods of making asphalt concrete mixtures including reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP). Variability in the fraction of binder that occurs in RAP that is able to melt and mix with virgin binder included in the concrete mixture previously made it difficult to select an appropriate amount of virgin binder. Methods described herein permit an asphalt concrete mix designer to determine the amount of virgin binder that can be combined with RAP and virgin aggregate in order to satisfy the minimum effective binder content of a job mix formula for such a concrete mix. The subject matter described herein thus permits more efficient use of RAP and permits use of RAP in higher amounts in asphalt concrete mixtures.
Abstract:
The invention relates to apparatus and a process for mixing a gas/vapour with a process liquid comprising a material and a carrier liquid. The apparatus comprises a passage (10) having an inlet (14) and an outlet (16) for a process liquid comprising the material and an inlet (24) for supersonic steam which is configured such that the angle of impingement of the steam on the carrier liquid can be varied.
Abstract:
Gas hydrate slurry formation systems are provided. The gas hydrate slurry formation system includes a cavitation chamber configured to receive a fluid and a cavitation device placed within the cavitation chamber. The cavitation device is configured to form a plurality of bubbles within the fluid in the cavitation chamber. The gas hydrate slurry formation system also includes a gas inlet configured to introduce a gas within the cavitation chamber such that the gas is entrained in the plurality of bubbles to form a plurality of gas- entrained bubbles. The plurality of gas-entrained bubbles implode within the cavitation chamber to form a gas hydrate slurry.
Abstract:
A process and an assembly for recombining a liquid food product are provided. The process comprises the steps providing a slurry of food solids, said slurry being prepared by mixing food powder with water, blending the slurry by in-line injection of water, and heat treating the recombined liquid food product. The blending step and heat treatment step may be continuous.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a portable mixing platform for producing a heat-transfer fluid on site and on an industrial scale, said fluid consisting of a eutectic mixture of diphenyl (DP) and diphenyl oxide (DPO). The platform includes a device that stores DPO in a liquid state, a device for supplying DP in a solid state, a mixing device in which both components are mixed in a liquid state and in the right amount for forming a eutectic mixture, and a device for inerting and treating gases which maintains the DPO and mixing devices under an inert atmosphere, as well as drawing the gases vented from both devices in order to pass said gases through an activated-carbon filter prior to expelling same into the atmosphere. The present invention also relates to the method for producing the eutectic mixture of DP and DPO using the described portable mixing platform.
Abstract:
A screw-moving assembly (100) for a screw assembly (903), the screw-moving assembly (100) comprising: a screw-moving actuator (102); and a bias-adjustment mechanism (104); wherein the screw-moving actuator (102) and the bias-adjustment mechanism (104) are configured to connect to the screw assembly (903); the screw-moving actuator (102) is configured to transmit, in use, a screw-translation force (112) to a longitudinal central axis (905) of the screw assembly (903); and the bias-adjustment mechanism (104) is configured to transmit, in use, a biasing force (114) to the longitudinal central axis (905) of the screw assembly (903).
